Changing Shock Absorbers

I have been researching changing the shock absorbers on my 2006 g55
by reviewing previous postings on this site. My local MB parts dept. informed
that the current pricing on the newest G55 shock absorbers were:

Part number: 463 326 02 00 rear $235.20
Part number: 463 323 01 00 front $235.20

The confusion is, the Part number for the 2006 G500 shock absorbers
are different:

Part number 004-326-01-00 rear $365.40
Part number 005-323-01-00 front $361.20

I do not understand the difference in pricing and part numbers. Can
they be interchanged or has MB made modifications to the suspension?

Any help would be appreciated.

............Totally do not understand your question. Obviously the G55 and G500 shocks are different, hence the different part numbers. Yes they are swappable. You can easily find the right info by plucking a G500 and G55 VIN from ebay and cross checking with another Dealer's parts department.

Up date on shock absorber replacement

Received a call from my MB service Rep. that the cost would be $1375
to replace the shocks on my G55 for the G 500 shocks. They coold not guarantee ride quality but said that others had done the same.
I will have it done, and keep the old shocks if things go wrong.

I love the G55, but the hard ride on city streets becomes very annoying
over time.

Sorry Ted for the confusion. What I should have said was that the most current G500 shocks have a different price and stock number.

.............I see what you mean. The difference in part numbers does not suprise me, but I'm not sure about the difference in price. Often when you visit the part department in person, one part number rolls over to another part number. For instance the part number for my 05 G55 calipers and pads rolled over to a new part number............that for the GL450, but they are the sam items as the "old" part number. Apparently the GL450 and W463 share parts. I wonder if that is what happened in your case.

.........I am probably a bit more experimental than most, but if it were me I'll just pick the 463 part number and go with it. These are just shocks afterall. People swap shocks in their cars all the time, even with after market non mercedes ones. G55 is definitely a great vehicle, but is a vehicle nonetheless.

I talked to my the service guy at the dealership and he told me its not a good idea to change the shocks over to the non-AMG shocks because like you I cant stand the ride sometimes and it gets annoying.......he told me it had those shocks for a reason because its a AMG and its fast and those shocks allow it to handle better and when the G500 shocks are installed it could be kind of dangerous turning corners at a speed etc.......

........You can't be serious. You talked to an SA at an MB dealership about changing the shocks in your G55 and you were expecting a different answer? Yes take it in *ss and smile, because you are driving an AMG. Let me say that my 05 G55 has the stock G55 suspension, because I actually like it. Not because an SA said what he was expected to say anyway. For fun, ask your SA to help you change your battery to non-MB recommended G55battery and see if he'll say yes.

........There are so many threads on this G55/G500 suspension that it is now becoming ridiculous. G55 acquired the stiff suspension in 03 way before the super fast Kompressor G55 was developed in 05. The )% suspension is a bit less stiff than the 03. Like many AMG cars, it has a stiffer suspension. Unlike most AMG cars, the stiff suspension in the G55 probably makes the least sense because it is not a sports car, it is top heavy and at 6000Lbs you are not going to be making sharp turns regardless of the suspension. You'll kill yourself. The speed in the G55 is purely for straight line acceleration.

So lets all agree NEVER to start yet another thread on this topic. There have been too many already. Every conceivable issue has been previously addressed. Their are many driving their G55's with G500 shocks and their G55's have not exploded. This is the least difficult modification to do in the history of automobiles in the entire solar system. Not sure why it generates so much bewilderement here.

*NB euro G55 has stiffer shocks than the US version. this was confirmed to me by Renntech who actually got me a set of the Euro ones. Needless to say, i did NOT actually change them as with the 20" Brabus wheels i have the ride is already significantly stiffer than stock

.....It would appear then that the Euro G55 still uses the 03G55 shocks which is stiffer than the 05 and newer G55 shocks. The G55 shocks story is an old story. The number one complaint MBUSA got from G55 owners in 2003 were the stiff suspension followed by the tranfercase problem. In 2005, MBUSA G55's came with shocks that were softer than the 03G55 and not as soft as the G500. I have owned the 03 G55 with the oem 03 G55 stock shocks, 03G55 with G500 shocks and 05G55 with stock oem 05 G55 shocks.
