My G63 Intro

Just finished with my G63 mods.

22" Vellano Vki concave...titanium with black centers.

Bull bar swapped for bumper guards

Blackout trim

Installed Rear Entertainment System

Really enjoying this most recent iteration of the G. Hasn't lost any of its character in the least.

Any info on these tires? Do they rub? How is the ride? What are the specs?

Did you paint side steps ??
Any scratches ? Cause everyone telling me that the paint is very soft and you can easily scratch it while stepping on it.

Yes their work is top notch. When looking at the your photos I realized the parking lot looked very familiar but I couldn't quite place my finger on it. Then I saw the red GTR in the background and knew exactly where it was- since a buddy of mine just told me he's getting some work done at Benchmark on his GTR. haha very small world.

Did you do the grille guard delete from them too/ did you work with Hugo?

Just the external piece is "wrapped"....this way I can protect the sidestep albiet temporarily plus go back to OEM if need be.

Correct. Just the outside edge.

I had my previous G sidesteps painted and as others have mentioned....this high use area just will not hold up when painted. This way I can get some semblance of protection and its fairly inexpensive to change out when worn.

Do you have a closer photo of side steps ? Also when wrapping do they put side steps off the car?

Thanks

Also interested in the specs (size?) of those mud terrain tires and if they rub. That's a really good look.

those should be General Grabbers, they are 12.5 wide and would most definitely rub. Would need to run spacers to make them useable

Kudos, not sure how you knew that, but I pulled up a pic of General Grabbers and it looks like the same tread pattern. Well done!

At this point, I'm trying to determine the best, tough looking tire to put on the stock G63 wheel that would fit the wheel-well nicely like this. I think a more aggressive tire like this better reflects the military/UN heritage that the G was developed for...but of course I'd want great street driveability.

The hard part is figuring out the right size to get this look without issues. Thoughts?

Grabbers - some of the best hardcore desert off-road tires. General belongs to Continental - good stuff.

The Grabbers would be LT315/50R20 for the G63 rims They wouldn't be too tall ( only 32.4" - fits nicely). The width of this size is the main issue. I was running 34.7/11.8" wide tires on my G55 with H&R 30mm spacers and taller springs, but still rubbing a full turning radius with tire sidewalls against headers. ( not sure if G63 has more room in wheel well) I was planning on trying the 35/12.5R18 next with a different offset rim.

Street drivability will be much worse than stockers. Humming noise at highway speeds, harsher ride, longer breaking distances and slightly worse mpg. The Grabbers for the G63 would weight 80lbs each - huge increase in weight below springs - ride will go to ****! But much better off-road
Max highway speeds usually around 100mph for M/T - mud terrain tires...

BFG Mud_Terrain T/A KM2s in LT305/55R20 would be slightly narrower and taller - 33.5" ( looks better IMO) and weigh only 65lbs ( still a LOT) - look equally cool as the Grabbers!

Nitto Trail Grabblers MT or Toyo Open Country M/T in LT275/65R20 (34X11.00R20) would have the perfect width but very tall 34.33 - might end up needing spring spacers or taking off your fender liners.

Goodyear has an awesome option too (EDIT - think the best option for the G63!) - Wrangler MT/R with Kevlar in 275/65R20 - these would also be super tall and might require spring spacers as well but not too wide! Look super aggressive in person!

Personally I am deciding between the General Grabbers and Goodyear MT/Rs for my next off-road setup

Any M/T offroad tire in 285/60R20 , 275/60R20 or 285/55R20 should be perfect if you want to accomplish the "rugged" look without any need for spacers I think.

Warning - once you go to tall M/T tires, any G wearing stock tires will look like crap to you!

More great information in your note, thank you! Your commentary encouraged me to do some additional searching. As you seem to have some sound expertise here, how about weighing in on the following:

305/50r20 Nitto Terra Grapplers on the stock 20x9.5 rim?

They appear to be 32.09" tall, 12.2" wide and weigh 47.5 lbs. It seems to be a good choice with an agressive looking tread and sidewall, but slightly more tame for the street. Given the specs, do you think this would fit with no issues?

Thanks!

Sorry OP for the hi-jack...maybe should be its own thread...

I would not recommend this width and tire size.

I'll PM you with my thoughts to stop the hi-jack
-------
Back to OP - how much worse did the ride get? Much harsher with the 22"s?
Are you thinking about changing brakes too? Your fronts seem to fill nicely - not sure how the backs look like.

I see a G55 all the time that is running 24" - can't imagine how harsh the ride would be - and brakes look a bit lost in the open space of those huge rims. on ebay there is a G55 with 26" rims - now that big is absurd ride wise!
