Alignment Issues Need Help Please Read and Advise
Howdy -
I bought my 03 G55 w. 67K with a slight slight pull to the right ,stock 18s and tires were brand new. Quickly swapped my wheels to the 09 G55 19s and wrapped them in brand new Firestone LE2s (far far far superior to the Pirellis).
Had MBZ inspect my entire trucks suspension and steering rack along with the entire truck, they came out with a $.0.00 bill , the truck is MINT they said.
Wheels works did the 1st alignment and it was a disaster!! I sent it back
and they botched it again the 2nd time. I had them rebalance all 4 wheels and triple check tire pressure as I stood over them.
Took it to an Indy Alignment specialist - He corrected Wheels Works mistakes
and explained the entire front end set up. I didn't even drive 2 miles before I turned around went back to him and said I still have a pull to the right. Not a road crown pull, an actual pull.
2 hours later he said ok its corrected.. 2 miles down the road, I went back and said hop in and got on several roads and freeways and let go of the wheel, and was forced into the right lane next to me each time, He said MB makes the trucks this way so if you fall asleep you dont get in a head on lol .. I kindly asked for a refund.
This morning went to another Indy alignment shop, the nicest guy ever.
Spent 1 hour on a free diagnoses. He checked the underbody and said WOW its perfect no bends no leaks no worn bushings, motor mounts looks greatand brakes and calipers are brand new and OEM. checked my tire pressure, crossed my front wheels as well.
He felt the pull immediatley, BUT he said when I nails it at WOT the truck slightly goes LEFT? (torque steer?)
(not really worried about this unless it helps diagnose my issue) He said in Neutral the truck pulls right, under cruising throttle the truck pulls right, but under WOT it veers slight left. He said I should go further into the steering box to make sure valving in the steering box and or transfer case are in equal working order (or something of the sort)
Ive owned 5 AMG MBZ and have never ever had an alignment that wasn't true. This new issue is driving me nuts, My steering wheel is cocked to the left pointing 11 o'clock to go straight, when I let the wheel go it dips to center and the car pulls right, so i have confirmed 100% its an alignment issue, and not a steering wheel off position.
Got off the phone with my friend a Master MBZ Tech, he said he has never heard of anything of the sort - Said only heard and seen trucks come in with a Bent Pan Hard Bar for the front axle when gassing it in 4x4 drive. Said Maybe mine might be a little bent and to check with the previous owner. eghhhhh he was 71 years old and drove 6K miles a year. Swore he never off roaded it or ever used any of the 3 diff functions. Last indy who looked at it this am said he measured everything and it was true underneath. So now im stuck
Anyone dealing with this , dealt with this or have a suggestion? Steering box, transfer case?
Picture is the way I have to turn my wheel to go straight.. errrrr

Have you gotten the car inspected for any previous body repairs or accidents? I would start there.
Having it aligned 3 time and it's still not right would scare me. I would get it looked at asap by a good body shop to see if they see any previous repairs or suspension repairs etc.

Not sure if you did this but why not have the dealer align it?

Yes indeed I did, I had a pre purchase inspection done at Walnut Creek Mercedes by the tech and then by their body shop and all came out with two thumbs up - the reason I haven't gone to the dealer is because I want to avoid the run around with them. They use the same machine as the Indy shops I went to and I can actually talk to the people adjusting my alignment opposed to a service advisor who won't give me 3 minutes of his time when he can not write me up an invoice and make money . These trucks only have one alignment adjusting option so aligning them appears not to be rocket science from what I've read and learned. It appears in dealing with something with the drive train or better yet the transfer case / or it can be something totally different which drives me nuts. I'm going to throw my 18 stocks on this weekend and see if that changes anything but until then I'm open to any suggestions or insight!! Thanks for chiming in !!

Geez I must be lucky to have such a good local dealer. Never have issues w them. Yea throw the stockers on that's a good start and see if that changes anything. Maybe it's those tires. Who knows, I had an E55 and had alignment issues because I had to buy falken tires once because of availability back in 2006 or so. Suspension never felt right, got OEM contis and it was back to normal.

Anyone have thoughts on a POWER PULL ? throws me off because Under cruising the car drifts right but when pedal kicked down it goes slightly left , this can only make me think of a power pull - anyone else?

Just got it back tonight!! Had the alignment checked, frame laser checked, no damage all oem under carriage , no bends nothing !! All is correct and dialed by certified body and frame specialists. BUT they did see that my right front shock was leaking and the knuckle was bleeding. Thinking the sag in the shock upfront is creating my issue. When they measured the height the right side was slightly lower. This really seems to make sense. I feel A LOT better and will be ordering 2009 front shocks tomorrow for the win !! Thought about getting G550 shocks but worried they might be tooo soft but man my 03 is tight!!
