G63 (2019) Nitto trail grapplers - trimmed wheel well

Hi,
I have a g63 (2019) and have had 33x12.5x22 nitto ridge grapplers put on the beast. The shop ‘trimmed’ the front wheel fender (below) is this ok? I am concerned that this is problematic? Or is it ok, just not aesthetic? Cheers

Ouch! I can't speak to whether or not it's functional or ok but I would not have done that. Especially for the sake of a tire on such an expensive vehicle.

Besides the fact it doesn't look good. i think Thats risky. Stones (especially propelled with force by the tire during speed) and sand grits can cause damage to that exposed radiator or whatever its called.
As opposed to cutting it off completely, was there a reason they couldn't use a heatgun to flex the rubber and push it back?

Good points, I was wondering the same thing. It was there for a reason. OP can always re-install later, right? Also, the cutting itself looks sloppy.

Yeah I would definitely not be ok with that, and whoever told you that would be just fine probably doesn't care one bit since it's your truck, not theirs. Stones, dirt, grime, mud, etc will all be issues in the future with this being exposed. I would be most concerned with the intercooler hard line/hose (i think that's what is there on the 63's) there as now there are plenty of ways something could get snagged on there and damage the line.

Did you test how bad the rubbing was on the fender liners at full lock before the cutting? Wheel spacers may have reduced the rubbing or eliminated it completely.

Hello,

Here's our experience running 33" tires. FYI, we don't recommend it but some customers want it.

You'll need to lift the truck, then run spacers from H&R, and the trimming of the fender lining but that should be minimal.

The shop looks like the had to cut a lot because the vehicle wasn't lifted. It was probably rubbing like crazy even with a small turn.

As for the dangers of it. You condenser right there, so if a rock shoots up and hits that, it's "AH OH, SH&$" LOL

We don't suggest running 33" tires on the new G unless you're willing to lift the truck. The new G, unlike the older G, doesn't have the clearance.

Here's a simply and inexpensive fix. Go to a hardware store and buy some mesh, but find the finest mesh possible. Then you'll need to install that mesh onto the cut fender liner so it'll prevent rocks for hitting the condenser.

Hope this helps..Please feel free to DM us with questions. Thank you!

The area they cut out was the ventilated ribs which are actually pretty big slots. I think if it were mine in this condition I’d call around to a race car fabricator and have him make me a sheet metal ventilated piece. It can be attached easily, won’t rust if aluminum and can be painted or anodized black easily. This is no different than a tub which a fabricator makes all the time. It will look good when finished and can be contoured for exactly the size tires you need. I bet you have a fabricator closer to you than you think. Simple job and it will look custom.
