Ok, I just test drove this thing. Looks like I'll probably be picking it up in the next day or so (not my first color combo choice but my wife and buddy are diggin' it). There are 1 million extra buttons in it that no one knows how to use so the electrical gremlins may come get me.

What does the dealer claim is Brabus on it? The only thing I can see that is different are the wheels. The front end looks like the stock AMG bumper on it. Has the motor been modified?

Ok, I went to the site...looks good and that is a good price for 55. Especially if it has been tuned by Brabus. talk them down a little on the price and I think you got a great deal.

Just the wheels as far as I know. The dealer bought it from some auction and the car is originally from New Jersey so the dealer doesn't even know how half the aftermarket electronic things work. Looks like it was someone's toy on the east coast. As for the price, they actually raised the price by $1000 b/c they are putting new monitors in the headrests, but because I showed up there tonight they are going to honor the $33800 price on it. I hate to say it because I told myself I would haggle the next time I buy, but I'm probably going to pay the asking price on it. I just have a feeling if I don't pick it up for this price, someone else will. I've looked at 3 other cars at this dealership in the past 6 months and they're all gone after I check back a week later. These guys remember me too and never go with me on the test drive. They don't even ask me for my driver's license any more. Bad news is I'm upside down on my trade-in by about $3k I'm trying to see if I can trade my car in without the hardtop and maybe without the cd changer so I can hopefully recoup some of the cost.

BTW, I still have an extended warranty on my car. Do I cancel this before or after I trade it in? If I cancel it after they pay off the loan, where does the prorated portion of the extended warranty go to? I know if I cancel it before they pay it off it will just go straight to the principal of the loan.

Oh, also found two problems with the car so far. Passenger seat doesn't move forward or back and the passenger window doesn't go auto-down, but it still goes down though.

Damn brotha..that is a hell of a deal, especially if they throw in the TV headrests.

Can't help you there.

a couple minor things IMHO especally for that price and toys it has. Did you check the carfax, you may want to make sure no accidents. Especially for the price. Does the seat not move when trying to get in the back or they don't move at all, with the door controls?

Yeah, they had a carfax printed out for me. 1 owner and nothing exciting on the report. The passenger seat doesn't move with the controls or when trying to get in the back either. The dealer has a friend who works in the service area of one of the MB dealers here so he said I could take it to him for any other work that needs to be done.

In terms of mods, I was thinking it might need a drop but I'm not sure if I'll bottom out on some of these Chicago streets though.

I don't think you should drop it.

It's definitely designo. The car looks different in daylight.

I posted this in another forum but check out what happened today.

So here I am at a dealership working out the numbers for a car and when it comes time for my trade-in they tell me they'll give me $17k for the car which sucks b/c it's about $3k lower than what I owe on it. I took my car to Carmax today and they offered me $21k on the spot and the quote is good for 7 days/300 miles! I haven't told the dealer about this yet and was thinking of doing it when I sit down with him again and talk numbers rather than calling him and telling him over the phone. What do you guys think? The dealer already hinted that the car I was interested in was selling for almost what they got it for so I'm hoping they don't pump up the price if I pull my trade-in out of the equation. Plus, he actually said they bumped the price up on the car by $1000 but because we went in on the night he bumped up the price (on the internet) he would honor the original price he posted first.

On a side note, I actually posted the car up on autotrader for $1000 more than Carmax was offering me (I posted the ad before I went to carmax). I subsequently put the price up about another $1000 just b/c I figure people will try talk me down anyways and for $1000 difference between Carmax and my original asking price I would probably just as easily sell it to Carmax and avoid the hassles of a private sale.

While at Carmax though, I saw a couple interested in a car almost exactly like mine. I was taking a test drive in another car while they were appraising my ride and saw this couple looking at my car's twin. So I approached them, mainly b/c I wanted to check the condition of the car and we got to talking so they said they might even be interested in my car. Talk about timing, eh? They have yet to call me but I only saw them an hour or so ago.

Took the car to a shop today to get a quote for the headrest monitors and a guy there thinks the engine is not stock. It has the Brabus/AMG engine cover but I can't say for sure if it's still the stock engine in there or not. The dealer told me it did feel a little faster than the other 55's but he thought it might be chipped. I guess only way to tell for sure is to put her on a dyno. Oh, and as for the passenger seat, I found out the fuse to the motor is underrated so I replaced the 25amp fuse with a 30amp fuse and no problems so far.

Nope, it's actually factory, Designo Espresso interior. I saw another one in the galleries just like it. You either love it or hate it, and mosts purists on these types of forums will hate it. I wasn't too excited about it either, but I don't mind it so much now. I kinda feel the same way about the handling (coming from a E36 M3), it's not as precise but you get used to it.
