NY MB dealership says no negotiation on pricing?
I went to a Mercedes dealership today in ny to look at a used car and was told that there is no negotiation possible on pricing for ANY vehicle there. Can this be possible? If I kept haggling with the guy would they let it slide and knock some bucks off for me?
Thanks

They have a car with extremely low miles that I want but are asking 4k over the blue book value. It's 8yrs old and has 10k miles. Is there any way I can get them to lower the price/purchase that particular car from a different dealer? Is that 4k premium worth it for such low miles? How many more years can I expect to get out of a 8yr old MB?

It's even more bizarre to hear about a used car having a non-negotiable price

A few years ago, MB raised the dealer cost of each model while mandating a no discounting policy. Some dealers would discount on the sly, but at risk of corporate finding out and punishing the dealer in some fashion (possibly through allocation of popular models). They may have relaxed this policy in the mean time after hearing enough complaints from sales staff who's margin was cut substantially. If you look at back issues of Curt Rich's newsletter:

pay to play. if you want to play with that particular car, then pay the money. if not, find another or something else that will satisfy. what 97-98 model do you have to have?

Sadly for MBUSA, market forces are much stronger than their decrees.
OP, tell that salesman to take a hike and find a different one. You're being jerked around.

They are bullsh*tting you and taking you for an idiot. I would take an act like that as an insult and go off on whoever tried to tell me that and go to another dealer who will show me some respect and would be better to deal with. Come on, a used car dealer that doesn't negotiate?? Unless that place was Carmax you're being taken for an idiot. Negotiation is the way business is done. I don't like to deal with people who don't have any integrity and will lie to me.
