NY MB dealership says no negotiation on pricing?

I went to a Mercedes dealership today in ny to look at a used car and was told that there is no negotiation possible on pricing for ANY vehicle there. Can this be possible? If I kept haggling with the guy would they let it slide and knock some bucks off for me?
Thanks

They have a car with extremely low miles that I want but are asking 4k over the blue book value. It's 8yrs old and has 10k miles. Is there any way I can get them to lower the price/purchase that particular car from a different dealer? Is that 4k premium worth it for such low miles? How many more years can I expect to get out of a 8yr old MB?

Something isn't right....1250 miles/year? What's the story on that? It should be as new unless someone fiddled with the mileage. Look for signs of wear or use that can't be hidden. Ask for service record. If it has been sitting in a closed garage maybe all is OK. Years? Car life is measured in miles. If it had some fluid changes and occassional driving during those 8 years it should be OK and be like a new car except for rubber/seal rot (if any) or body rot if it was driven on salted roads at all. Look at the under carriage for signs of rust and corrosion. You should get at least 100k miles and more if you take care of it.

MB Corporate forced the dealers into the no-discounting policy on new cars a few years ago. But that is pure baloney on the used lot.

Can you explain further? The dealer near me routinely discounts virtually every new car on the lot, clearly displayed on the window. Maybe no discount on a just released hot selling model for a little bit, but after that the stickers appear. Not always the absolute best price out there, but someone walking in off the street who has sucker written all over them will get the same price as every one else.

Either I've never heard of that or MB-Manhattan ignores MBUSA. Aside from a super hot, just released car (that they probably wouldn't have in stock), they are always willing to wheel and deal.

It's even more bizarre to hear about a used car having a non-negotiable price

A few years ago, MB raised the dealer cost of each model while mandating a no discounting policy. Some dealers would discount on the sly, but at risk of corporate finding out and punishing the dealer in some fashion (possibly through allocation of popular models). They may have relaxed this policy in the mean time after hearing enough complaints from sales staff who's margin was cut substantially. If you look at back issues of Curt Rich's newsletter:
www.curtrich.com

...you can find his thoughts on the matter. e.g. working many more hours to make the same take-home.

pay to play. if you want to play with that particular car, then pay the money. if not, find another or something else that will satisfy. what 97-98 model do you have to have?

They will "Deal" and if not, take your cash to another dealer.

Sadly for MBUSA, market forces are much stronger than their decrees.

OP, tell that salesman to take a hike and find a different one. You're being jerked around.

Never heard of that before. Especially on a used car. Tell them to take a hike.

Take your business elsewhere, certainly no shortage of dealers.

Mercedes
They are bullsh*tting you and taking you for an idiot. I would take an act like that as an insult and go off on whoever tried to tell me that and go to another dealer who will show me some respect and would be better to deal with. Come on, a used car dealer that doesn't negotiate?? Unless that place was Carmax you're being taken for an idiot. Negotiation is the way business is done. I don't like to deal with people who don't have any integrity and will lie to me.
