Try PM'ing nknauz. He might be able to do this for you, he is in Lake Bluff (north suburbs).

Actually, Al has a picture of it slammed, ask him to see it. I couldn't drive it like that because I put on 19 x 9 in front and 19 x 10 in back. The tires would rub with those wheels. With the stock 18s it would have worked.

Al's a great guy and does great work. My experiences with him have been better than any other shop I've been to.

Have fun.

Got the car lowered today. Al was definitely great to work with and helped me make sure I got the car lowered just right. In the end, we were able to get the back to go down about 3/4 inch and the front 1". The suspension wouldnt stick with any lower setting. He mentioned that your car was able to go lower since you had a module installed. Anyway, I think the drop looks pretty good, and Ill post pics soon.

Thanks again.

Damn, that's a good deal. DSC, have you heard anything about lowering it that way being bad as opposed to a lowering module though because of something with the suspension not dampening? I want to get my car lowered after I get my rims put on.....but was afraid of some of the lowering modules that had wire splicing involved because I didn't want the dealer to void the warranty but also don't want to ruin my suspension early either.

As far as I know it isn't a suspension dampening issue if you don't go so low that you eliminate suspension travel. If you do via Star or module the result is the same for suspension travel. The question comes when you hit 75 mph. The E55 automatically lowers itself about 1/2 inch for stability. If you are lowered via Star it will still lower at 75 mph. There is potential to lower itself too low with larger wheels/tires. You could end up rubbing. That's what happened to me. If I had stock wheels/tires then I would not have had the problem.

I used the Renntech lowering module which basically shuts off at 75 mph and allows to car to act normally. This way the car goes back to stock height mode and then lowers itself based on thinking and being back at stock height. There is no "over" lowering.

Al did the installation of the Renntech module. Very nice clean job. I have it located in the glove box so I can adjust the height any time. The Renntech module allows the front wheels to be adjusted independently and then the rears together.

hotwiredbenz, glad you're happy.

Was there a reason you went with that module as opposed to say a Kleeman or ?

I had heard one of the modules, maybe the RENN, needed splicing into wires...and that some people were worried it might void their warranty if the dealer saw a hacked up wiring harness.

Both Renntech and Kleemann need splicing. Kleemann is not adjustable with no 75 mph cut out, meaning the car will still lower past the already lowered state. Renntech is adjustable with the disengage at 75 so the car will not go lower than mercedes specs.

Kleemann can't be turned off to revert to stock so the Dealer will not see the lowered state, Renntech can be turned off and the car reverts to stock. The Dealer would have to find either unit which you can hide.

Renntech seems like the way to go then. How much was your module?

Normally it sells for $1500.00. I got it for about $1100.00 as an intro price. I think some tuners are still selling at that price. Check this link: https://mbworld.org/forums/showthrea...owering+module

I would strongly recomend you have Al at Chicago Performance install it, Pro job, 708-343-8677. Tell him Dan said he would treat you RIGHT.
