Anyone Know?
Does anyone here know the consequences of a dealership selling a car with a broken Check Engine Light on purpose?

Thanks guys.

PS. If you want to know, I did some research/talked to a mechanic/and tested out my car. I basically started it, took off the fuel tank cap, and sat there... waited for the CEL to come on. It never did.

PS#2. I have a Carfax Guarantee on it.

When you start it all the lights should come on for lamp check. Does it come on during startup ?

Given that you wouldn't fill up the car while it is running, it probably only checks the gas cap at start up. Try taking the cap off, then starting the car and see if it comes on then.

I think your scenario is unlikely ... approaching fantasy.

The consequences are that the dealer will lose its license to be a dealer.

The bulb works when all the lights come on. The light doesn't come on when I let the car run for 10+mins without a gas cap. I e-mailed the dealer, they keep ignoring my e-mails and calls.

One might think that if there is an official procedure for checking whether the CEL system is functioning, it is NOT running the car without a gas cap.

You frankly have NO IDEA whether your system is working or not.
