Elimination of Luxury Tax in 2003

When purchasing your new MB, don't forget that in 03, the luxury tax will be eliminated which could save you some money. Rather than a Nov or Dec delivery, a Jan 03 delivery may be worth the wait.

Really?

First I've heard of this. Is it a national tax? I thought it was a left-coast (i.e.-Kalifornia) only tax.

What are the odds the greedy "never-saw-a-tax-I-didn't-like," "tax-the-rich-give-to-the-dope-smokers" politicians will extend the sunset on the tax?

Could be a useful "spur on the economy" kinda thing to kill it too.

Hmmmmmmmmmm. I hope it's true!!! please be true, pleasepleasepleasepleasepleasepleasepleaseplease!! !

Yes, it is true, it has been phasing out since 99.

"Any new vehicle priced over $36,000 is subject to the Luxury Tax. This tax is now being phased out by the government and will be eliminated completely in 2003. Until then, the tax rates are: 1999 - 6%, 2000 - 5%, 2001 - 4%, 2002 - 3% and 2003 - 0%. "

This percent is on the difference of the purchase price, minus 36k. So if your car cost 40K, you would only pay this tax on 4K which would come to $120. Not a enough $$ IMO to put off delivery.

True, true.... I would like to think that if you can afford a $145K car, you would have no problem putting presents under the tree!! Then again, some people get stretched to the limit.....

Also.....

Just wanted to say that I'm very happy that they are getting rid of the "luxury" tax! Now if they could do something with the extra taxes for having a phone, the marriage penalty, etc.....

Any news on the gas guzzler tax?

Is there any news on the gas guzzler tax? I'm guessing it can only go up, never down, especially now.
