3rd Party Warrenty

Sorry for the Newb Q but we just picked up a 06 CLS and were looking into 3rd party warrenty's. The car has Navi + AMG kit and only has 25k on it. We got it from an auction so i konw for sure i can't CPO it...what 3rd party do you guys suggest? Is it worth it? I wotn be taking it in for everything but i figured if something big went out i could get it fixed with low cost eventhough it might be alot of hassle..figure any electronics, die, lil bugs here and there. Let me kown what you suggest and how much you paid for it. Thanks.

i am in the same boat, but my car has more miles. 06 C230 53k. i am being quoted a 50 dollar deductible, 36 month or to 85,000 miles whichever comes first for about 1,545 before taxes.

you can take to any MB dealership or certified mechanic nationwide and includes towing and rental car. includes everything but oil changes, brake pads, scheduled maintence, and emmision system.

kind of a gamble, your car has so few miles you would think it would be fine. but you are right you might pay the cost of the plan in one or two trips to the mechanic. it is transferable though if you decide to sell the vehicle, which is a bonus.

i am just worried about unforseen stuff, like AC problems, elecrtical/computer problems, etc. i got my car checked by a mechanic before i bought it so i am pretty confident in the main systems.

from who?? maybe its bc the car is worth more than mine and has lower miles, but you think that would lessen the risk of something going wrong. seems fishy.

i would keep the 6500 and budget for repairs, but that is just me. 1600 seems doable to me since the car has pretty high mileage, especially with a 50 dollar deductible.

I think the biggest causes for complaints on 3rd party warranties are:
1. Purchase cost (I guess this is rather obvious).
2. Things not covered by the warranty (and related disputes).
3. The company going out of business before your warranty coverage is over.

Buying any car, especially used, involves an element of risk. You try to inspect the car as thoroughly as possible, but there are still some things you will miss.

An extended warranty may reduce the risk somewhat, but it adds its own additional risk factor. There is a reason these warranties are so controversial. A $6500 price tag should clearly rule out any warranty; however, $1600 may be worthwhile.

There really is not a "right" answer. Good luck.

A 2006 CLS w/25K miles should still have about 2 years of manuf. warranty left, right? I wouldn't worry about a 3rd party one yet - especially for $6500! My feeling is, I'm currently car-shopping myself, drive it for the duration of the factory warranty and see how it goes. If you still enjoy the car and it hasn't had any major problems, so you plan to keep it, then look into a 3rd party warranty. If it ends up being troublesome during the next 1-2 years, dump it as soon as the factory warranty expires.

What company are you getting the $1600 quote from?

warranty

My 08 E-550 just went over 1 year with 12,000 mi. and I'm still considering an extended warranty. I have heard OK things with Warranty Direct. I think my dealer is quoting Fidelity. Haven't checked prices lately but a few months ago I was quoted approx. 2500 to 3000 for two more years over the 4 yr. factory warranty up to about 100,000 mi. My dealer was advertising a reduction in their warranty price recently.

Has anyone dealt with Fidelity or Warranty Direct?

if the dealer warranty is still an option i would go with that, i have heard of both of those companies but have no experience with either one. but the dealer warranty is your best bet for a car that new.
