159 mph (speed limiter on E55)
180 mph on a 1999 Vette I had, I ran out of space, I could have gone to probably 185, this was a bone stock car! 6 speed.
167 mph on a 1996 Impala SS I had with NOS, speed is aprox. calculation by rpm and was gear limited (3.42)
127 mph on a 1996 Suburban

101 mph in the C230K - since I know it's limited to 130 there doesn't seem to be as much fascination with topping it out (or maybe I'm getting old)

Old cars: 142 mph in my old college car - a heavily modified Chevy X11 (this was without passin' gas - only used that for the drag strip)

136 mph in an Acura Integra - should be faster now since I've done more work on it but I haven't topped it out in years (see the getting old comment)

120+ mph in a 1972 Caddy Coupe with a 510 c.i. motor (an 8.3L V8 - talk about no replacement for displacement!); the speedo only went to 120 and there was no rev-counter, we never had any idea of how fast it really was.

Be careful out there, BT

I thought Suburbans were governed. I don't know the exact speed, but somewhere around 100 mph or not much faster, due to the factory-equipped tire speed rating.

You are right, they are governed at 98 mph, thanks to Hypertech Power Programmer (for the speed limiter) and a few other mods now I can even spin tires on it

Hypertech allows me to move the governor up to 127 mph (which I've already hit two times)

Here is the website, this is better than me trying to explain
www.hypertech-inc.com

For american made cars it is easy to squeeze a little more HP and adjust your speedo for different tires and gear, and a few other enhacements. Easy and cheap.

hello guys!

i´m new on this forum but i like it very much. to my person, i´m 19years old and work for a mercedes-benz dealer in Paderborn (germany)

nearly all of our cars are limited to 250km/h doing this by myself in BMW 850i and E 430 T.
but my mom´s C180 runs but to 220km/h.

a friend of me, markus, is still on top with a lean out Porsche 996 GT2 doing 338km/h (~211mph) on the Autobahn 99 from munich to stuttgart last octobre: here´s the pic

will ask markus for more pic´s, he promised me that the car could go even faster around 342km/h. if he get the car the next time i will ask him if he has one free place within

now thats what i mean with "need for speed"

he told that it´s a strange experience to break the 300km/h, the porsche will be very very uncomfortable beyond this speed. the huge spoilers will push the GT2 so hard to the ground at top-speed.

02 CLK 430 Coupe
My 02 CLK 430 will only go 135 mph. The best place I have found to do it is in San Diego on the 805 north in Mission Valley across the long bridge there at about 2:30 in the morning. You can see the whole bridge before you get going to make sure there is no one on it, and there is no place for anyone to enter until the end of the bridge, so you don't endanger anyone else as long as you verify it to be empty first.

The fastest I have ever driven is 137, both in cars that I no longer have, an 89 420SEL and a 98 BMW 740IL.

I was cited and convicted about a year and a half ago for going 102 in a 65 in San Juan Capistrano, CA. It was two points, a $385 fine and a 30 day suspension of my license. (CVC 22348b, http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/cgi-bin/di...le=22348-22366 )

Since then, I usually drive 95-100 (but not greater than 100) in light enough traffic.

I've made it to 128 mph in a Stealth Twin Turbo, and it wasn't even breating hard. Horsepower is fun!

Is it true that you can generally be dragged out of your car and arrested for going much over 100? I have heard horror stories about this happening, but maybe those are just old wives tales.

For those of you cited in excess of 100, how did the officer respond to your 'infraction' at the scene?

Yes it is true, I was once arrested because I was doing 114 mph on a 70 mph zone, yet there was this one time the cop let me go and didn't even give me a ticket ! we spent 30 minutes talking about the car (I even showed him the nitrous bottle, to which he also mentioned it was illegal to use on the road, this is the 96 Impala SS), he just said at the end "Alfonso driving 157 mph is ridiculously fast, you better slow down from here on, OK?" all I can say is that- that day I was the luckiest man on earth!

IMHO the only safe way to do this, is on the track or on a deserted road that see's no traffic at all.

I have a CLK 430, I try to do 140mph at least once a day.
It feels like it will do more.

Seems pretty scary that somebody would be going this fast at all.....THEN take one hand off of the wheel, then take the time to look down at the speedometer, and take a photo of it!! I hope the passenger took the photo!!

It was indeed. This speed was actually obtained with a couple of passengers on board. This helped immeasureably to keep the thing on the ground. Over 120mph it would get a spooky amount of air underneath it and become real floaty if there wasn't some excess weight in it. One time with friends we drove from Magic Mountain back to their place in Bakersfield in about 45 minutes. Cruised at about 100 mph in the twisty bits of the Grapevine, then really opened it up down in the valley. I actually had a friend write a paper about this car for a non-science major physics class, it was titled "The Citation From Hell."

I have been ~178 MPH as a passenger in a '97 Porsche 911 Turbo. I got suckered into the joyride by a coworker at the Jag/Audi/Porsche dealership where I was once employed. Yes, the customer was driving.

I managed an indicated 108 MPH in the 190D... traffic, geography, and available daylight didn't allow me to continue with the experiment. It felt like there was enough there for an honest 109, or atleast 108.5 SWEET!!!

My comparably powered and short-geared '84 Peugeot 505 (~97bhp vs 93bhp) manages 106MPH, though I worry that the leading edge of the hood will begin to glow like the Space Shuttle on reentry. The 505 isn't as aerodynamically slick as the 190... to say the least.

Where the hell is the W201 forum anyway??!?!
