AMG Badge on non AMG cars?
The dealers add the AMG badge on non-AMG cars that may have AMG kit on it to raise the cache of the car...just another selling ploy. A goober walking off the street with no real knowledge about AMG will be the next sucker...

I think this is more of a case of the owners putting the badges on the cars themselves, and when called out, feel like idiots and put the blame on the stores.
Don't get me wrong, I think it's ridiculous when people badge their cars with AMG cladding when it isn't.
Anyone have concrete knowledge/evidence of this happening at their dealers?
Seems a little speculative to me as of right now...

It was on a CLS550. The only thing AMG on it were the wheels.
The Best of Mercedes & AMG

A great deal of people have no idea about this practice done by dealers, and are unsuspecting. They just like the car, buy it, and have no idea on this issue. Are they suckers? Not necessarily, but misinformed? Yes.
This topic goes back and forth, and you can do what you wish. This is a free country, but...having the AMG kit, wheels, valve stems, license plate, and pedals, does NOT make my CLS an AMG.

"1999 Mercedes Benz CLK430 – AMG
White
Black leather interior
A must see. This car is in top condition.
The 430 has the AMG wheels and the AMG Body kit. For 1998 and 1999 there were no clk55 so technically the 430's were the AMG models."
Where do I even begin?

i personally believe that putting an AMG badge on is ok if you have AMG parts. you're not saying its something its not, as you have the other badge telling everyone what car it is.
eg i have a CLK500. if i put the AMG badge on there that's because i have the AMG appearance package and a few other AMG parts. But.. i still have the CLK500 on the other side. i'm not saying my car is a CLK55 i'm just saying that i like AMG and have some of their parts on board.
However.. it would be sinful to take off your model number badge and repalce it, eg changing the CLK500 to CLK55 that is complete sin and trying to say you have something you don't.
Just my opinion
If i saw a G35 with a nismo badge it would be ok
If i saw an IS-F with a TRD badge it would be ok
Thus a MB with AMG badge is also ok if suitably equipped
And just for clarification, here in Australia, all the new C-class' that come with the AMG appearance package (CLK200K/CLK280 etc) ALL have AMG badges from the FACTORY.
Interesting reply. I had an email from AMG that specifically echoed what has been said above - basically from the point AMG was acquired by Mercedes, AMG trunk badges were only given to AMG cars. Certain parts such as wheels have the AMG logo on them, even though they are on non-AMG cars, but that is because they are AMG parts. Putting an AMG on the back of the vehicle, in the style of a proper AMG car, is not correct, according to AMG. The AMG rear trunk badge is part of a model designation that is reserved for AMG cars, and imitation because of an AMG appearance package is simply incorrect. There is no such thing as a CLK500 AMG, or CLK200 AMG, or whatever, and the AMG appearance packages do not change that.
It's not really a big deal, because as another person said a lot of people simply aren't aware of this, but the actual technical explanation that I got indicated AMG trunk badges are for model designation - not for decoration. The AMG is there because it's an AMG car, and it's done in a way consistent to the class/type (E55, CLK55, whatever) because it's meant to designate that the car is, in fact, an AMG.
I hope that makes sense.

The whole thing is very pretentious. Once MBZ moved to using trim adhesive to glue the labels on the cars, I've been removing them.
As far as adding an AMG logo on the tail, I think it's only correct if the driver also has the AMG logo tattooed on his forehead.

If you have a genuine AMG so what, you paid the extra for it and if someone has the AMG line models they paid for that. Who really cares just get a life
Then your first post is to make this point.
Let me guess... you have an AMG badge in your non-AMG vehicle (and you have an older MBWorld account)
LOL
Been swapping between Range Rovers & MB.
You seem to be such an idiot with such snobbish views. I was looking for a MB forum with some sensible members for discussion, you are obviously not one of them.
Get a life and let others have theirs.
