Buying Mercedes C240
I'm looking into buying a 2000 or 2001 C240 for my next car.
I am a college student and just love Mercedes-Benz. My last car was a 1985 Mercedes-Benz 190e 2.3-16v Euro Spec until I flipped it and totaled it.
So my question is really is this a good Mercedes to be looking at/what problems may I come across with this model and would it be worth it to own. Also maybe any other advice anyone could give me on getting a new car (obviously Mercedes because I don't trust my life in another car)

Yeah, I'm not looking for fast though. I'm actually looking to slow down a bit. Because thats what happened with my other Mercedes I pushed that car to its limits and almost died I'm really lucky to be alive. Thats why I trust in Mercedes to make a very sound car that I won't die in.
Also I really want sedan so I can carry around friends and such.

Yeah I just looked that up I was only aware it came in the coupe form. I'll look into that then.
And my 190e was putting out close to 200hp so it wasn't that much and I did what I did.

I would go for something 05 or newer.
First few model years have plenty that can and will break. Though most might be replaced by now. A/C parts, front suspension, interior...
Maybe you should look for a W202 C220 or a W124 diesel if you need to slow down
Or just a C240 4 matic.

I have a 02 C240 and have not had any major problems. I had to buy new rotors and pads and recharge the A/C, nothing major. The only issue that I don't like which is minor is that I have an error message telling me to upgrade the teleaide in the car. Mercedes has upgraded from Analog to digital and to upgrade the car will be about $1200.00. Other than that I love my car.

The C230s with the supercharged 4 cylinder engines are extremely unreliable from what I've seen on the forum over the past year and a half. On the W203 forum, almost every time you hear of an engine problem or engine wiring harness problem (oil leaking into it) it's that engine! The C240 is far more reliable and smooth running, while slower. I know, I must be very skewed because I own one, but go through old posts on the W203 forum and you will see that it's true.

I agree. I haven't had any MAJOR problems with my C240 (just a bunch of minor ones for the first few years until a few wiring harnesses were replaced under MB recalls, and a few other things were replaced under warranty). Now it's been very solid and reliable for the past few years, and I'm currently looking to sell it (purchased an E350 recently).

I'm in the market for a C230.
Would a C280 be a better choice?
