How good is the Starmark 6 year/100K warranty that most MB dealers offer on used cars? What does it cover, everything?

It is basically the same as the Mercedes warranty except no coverage for radio, phone, fiber optics and CD electronics. No deductible and it doesn't kick in until you bring your car in for the first service after the original warranty expire. I got it for my preowned CLK55 and I won't buy a preowned without it. Now, make sure it is a Starmark extended warranty and not a Starmark powertrain warranty, which is useless in my opinion.

Thanks for the advice, why do you think the powertrain is useless, just b/c the possibility of the engine/transmission having problems is few and far between, or its just not comprehensive enough?

Also, is there a general range of how much a Starmarked car should be over a car with no Starmark warranty?

One more thing, you were saying that it doesnt kick in until you first bring the car in for service after the standard factory warranty has expired. This is for the 6yr/100K warranty, correct? So meaning that the Starmark is good for 6 years after your factory warranty runs out, or 100K, whatever comes first?

The Starmark powertrain warranty has very limited coverage and the premium Starmark extended warranty covers almost everything( including powertrain) All the Starmark certified cars I have encountered are covered by Starmark extended warranty, not the powertrain one. The Starmarked cars are usually about $1000-1500 more and you can purchase additional years.

The Starmark warranty is available with 1, 2,3 and 4 years/100K miles options( which ever comes first). The Starmark warranty does not activate until the original warranty expires and you bring your car in for the first service after expiration. Most of the Starmark car I have seen only comes with 1 year/100K miles but you can purchase more years. As far as I know, there are no 6 years/100K miles coverage. So verify this with your dealer.

Please help me out by showing me where you found out that the warranty begins with your first request for repair . I was also told that, but when I went to take my C43 in today, the dealer told me it had expired back in Feb 2004 (when I purchased the car and the warranty) and not in July 2004 as I expected it to since I made my first claim in July 2003. I want to prove them wrong and get my work covered.

And if it is turely expired who should i purchase aftermarket warranty from?

It mentions this in the "warranty" booklet you should have received and signed when you picked up your starmark car.

I'm not sure if this still applies if the car you purchased STILL had a factory warranty.... or if the "Warranty starts at first service visit" only if the car you bought had no factory warranty left and just a starmark.

So here is some history on the car. The warranty expired on the C43 1998 in 2002. Then I bought the car in Feb 2003 with 29K miles and with 12 month starmark from dealer. So no exsisting warranty but under 50K. Then had my first work done in Jun 2003.

Dealer explained to me that becuase the original warranty had expired then the Starmark purchased, the expiration date would be 12 months from purchase.

I haven't look in the phamplete yet but will today and do some final investigation before letting it go.

...and you can purchase additional years of Starmark coverage through your dealer.

100k is the max. mileage coverage under Starmark.
