Suddenly an "out of state buyer" buys the car

Suddenly an "out of state buyer" buys the car

Has anyone encountered this scenario? You are looking at a used car and are very interested in buying it but on your own terms and time. The second day after driving it you recieve an email from the salesperson stating that the car has been sold to an out of state buyer for the list price. Then you are asked if you want to make a counter offer. Ignoring this email, the next day you recieve another email stating that the person never returned a signed sales order but that they might still do so at any time so if you want it, better get with it. i am not identifying the dealer publicly yet but want to know via email to me if you have gone thru the same thing.

If you were the salesman and someone wanted to buy the car at list price right away, would you waste your time on someone else? Sounds like BS to me. I would still take my time and if that is the car you end up getting and its still available, I would buy it off a different salesman. TC

Good advice ^ ! That's just Sales BS 101, for sure.

That sales person is on a fishing trip - the car is the bait and you are the prey !!

there's probably something wrong with the car or they're looking to get more money for it. don't change your tacktics. take it to you mechanic and haggle like crazy for the price. if they say that someone else is interested, unless you REALLLLLY want the car just say that's fine and walk away. Before I bought my car someone tried that **** on me and I walked away and behold, a few days a new e-mail saying the guy walked away. They were reluctant to let me take it to my mechanic but I told them it's the only way, turns out the car has been completely rebuilt from a front end collision. be careful, you never know who you're buying it from.

its a BS sales tactic.. I know because I sell cars, not that I am protecting my dealership but we dont practice that SPECIFIC tactic here but I will say there are others...

as i said in the other thread, avoid this stealer like the plague...plenty of other cars out there...if you do make an offer make it way lower than you were originally gonna offer as they're desperate, no "out of state buyer" exists...

No one knows if this is true except the sales guy. Its not necessarily untrue. If you want the car buy it while you can, if not just walk. Does not matter if its true or not.

Exactly.

If it's a good car and you get it for a fair price the rest is vapor-ware.

It's the sales guy's job to entice you into buying it; it's your job to not be swayed by that kind of crap.
