Question After Market Warranty

Anyone got some opinions, one way or the other, about after market warranties? Good, bad or really, really ugly?

Next to the MB premium warranty, which you can only get during the first year of MB purchase, is the Daimler-Chrysler warranty available thereafter.

Being the 2nd owner, I was unable to extend the warranty through MB. My local MB dealer didn';t know anything about the Daimler Chrysler warranty program, so I went with Warranty Gold which has a very good plan. The dealer said they had worked with them and there were no problems. I extended the warranty on my 2001 CLK 430 to 7yr, 70,000 miles, $0 deductible for less than $2,000.

Hi Karl,

My dealer advised that no aftermarket company will touch an AMG. I'll probably extend to 7/100 with MB anyway, but can you point me in the right direction to get details about the DC warranty?

Thanks

Hi Steve -

I got for my 2002 CLK AMG the MB premium extended through Lisa Lehrbaum, head of finance @ Courtesy Motors in Chico, California, - & saved 1K!!

Lisa is VERY knowledgeable and helpful. She might be able to assist you and save you $$$ with the DC warranty.

Call her tollfree 800/655-3535.

Somebody doesn't know the facts it appears.

I have been considering a C43 until the new SL600 or, better yet, the SL65 arrives. I was told by my Mercedes Dealer's salesman that there is no problem getting a Mercedes Extrended warranty after the Starmark runs out on the C43. The car (a 99) has 47k on it.

Thanks for the info, Karl

Stricks, my understanding is that the Mercedes-Benz extended warranty must be purchased by the original owner during the first 12 months or 12,000 miles of ownership. It is offered for 1, 2 or 3 years and a maximum 100,000 miles. $0 deductible and it ain't cheap!

My 12 months is up at the end of June, and I'm way under on mileage.

I am looking into all avenues of a quality extended warranty for my AMG. I haven't been able to find any information about the DC Extended warranty (which I guess is different from the MB extended warranty which is different than the Starmark warranty.)

Calling Lisa is next on my list....

Thanks all

Steve

I just know what I told you above as per the salesman. Frankly, I would've known more as I thought I was selling my current SL today, but it looks like it will wait until next week. Then I will know about extended warranty's with Mercedes better.

Hey Chappy, This is from the thread on same subject from last year.

I wrote>>I just recently purchased an extended warranty for my 2001 E55. I bought it through the dealer that sold me the car. It extends my warranty for 48 months. I have heard that the extended warranties being offered now are only for 36 months - but I don't know this for sure.

I paid a total of $2200. This was a better price than what my local dealership was asking for (FLetcher Jones - Las Vegas). Is it worth it? I would only answer in the affirmative if major maintenance bills end up being covered by this warranty.

You have to buy it before the first year of ownership is up. <<

I recall that tinyacres got a quote of $2,550 from his dealer in Denver and that they wouldn't budge on it, nor would mine, so that is why I went to Downtown L.A., where I had bought the car.

Someone also posted on that thread that COMAND is not covered by the MB extended warranty.

Daimler Chrysler!!!

Definitely! I bought mine for my 2kml55 when I had 48k miles on it early this year. Now I have 60k and it is currently in the shop having flattened cams and lifters removed and replaced. The warranty covered everything. It paid for itself 3 times over, the first time I used it. I paid $2500 for 6yr/100k total with $100 deductible.

Call Lisa Lehrbaum who's number is posted earlier in the thread.

You're welcome.

Did you get the DC extended from Chico?

I haven't "pulled the trigger" yet. I'm waiting for my local MB dealer to send the specific language on the MB extended warranty first.

Language - it's a boilerplate pamphlet. You'll find everything included - as in the original MB warranty, except for COMMAND and the related audio electronics.

Do you know if it will cover the pneumatic seats (not just the motors, but the air bladders, switches, etc.)

I may just throw the $3410 into a high-yield CD for four years and use the cash to pay for any repairs between 4-7 years. Still examining all the facets of the decision.

When I see people say "put money into a high yield CD" I cringe (professional responsibility). Use a four or five star Morningstar High Yield Bond Fund with check writing priviledges and then go to www.bigcharts.com to track the fund weekly. I think High Yield Bond Funds have six to 12 months to go before they start to drop in value any substantial amount. My two cents about a comment that was probably off the cuff.

I'm so happy that I am covered for 100,000 miles till 2008 - whichever comes first, -

with the transferable MB PREMIUM extended warranty for around 2k, and don't have to wait for a CD to yield X % in Y years.
