removing tint, easy?
Got my '05 CLK a couple of days ago in Virginia. It was originally from Florida so it has really dark tint. Got pull over by our finest VA police. I told him I got the car used a day earlier (showed him paperworks). He gave me a warning and said he would ticket me next time if I didn't remove the tint.
Anyway, has anyone done the removal himself. Is it difficult? I googled and found that if it is done incorrectly, I could be stuck with an underlayer on the windows and it is b$tch to get it off (lots of elbow grease).
Thanks!

I called and they charged around $100.00 to $130.00 to remove the tint.

How much? Its 175 around here to strip and install new tint. Just spray some windex on it and put a black garbage bag over the windex. Let it sit for a few minutes and pull it off.

Another time, even with windex - it sucked and left a lot of marks, didnt use a blow-dryer though.
Last time, i paid a detail/tint shop $20/window to take it off, and I thought that was too much. If I were to do it again, it'd be a shop without question.
Gluck.

It's easy. I remove my tint by myself. The only tools that you need are heat gun, cutter blade and goo gone. Search on google and youtube how to remove it and you can do it easy.

Simple. Soak rag in store bought ammonia. Wipe all over the tint. Many times, rewetting the towel. You'll soon see the tint changing. At that point, keep going a while longer, then grab a corner and peel it off. Then soak the glue with ammonia some more.
Get a razor and start scraping away the melted glue. Once it's gone, clean the glass some more with ammonia, then finally something like Windex.
