Mercedes-Benz AMG has developed a new 5.5-liter V8 engine that combines powerful eight-cylinder performance with the decidedly economical fuel consumption of a four-cylinder.

That's great, this motor should find it's way into the next SLK55.

This engine is already in the SLK55, and I believe that this same engine will find it's way into the G55

I've heard from my friend that is a tech at dealer that these engines will be going into the C63 as well. They are going to a smaller displacement engine for better fuel economy. He said it was mentioned in some of the training seminars.

What I've heard on the G55, is that it might get the 4.7TT motor

The bottom line here is that we are all speculating, as to what Mercedes-AMG will do.
Only they know for sure, what their tragedy is.

I'm only curious as to what this engine will do with a pair of LTH and a tune.
SLK with 500+ HP?
Will be an absolute blast to drive.

It was my understanding that they actually wouldn't because the torque produced by this motor is more than the frame can handle. They were going to leave it for the larger cars (eg CLS), but things could have changed since I last read that. Would be a big improvement.Originally Posted by Merc63

There is no replacement for displacement. We don't buy an AMG for fuel economy.
As these are performance cars. But I do agree that if you can build a smaller more greener performance engine producing more hp and torque, by all means drop it in.

This is good news for Finland because here cars are taxed according to Co2 g/km. Of course they post a low number, meaning that tax for this car won't be that high in the end. Might get one of these and have some work done on it
