Question sl55 for $15K ??

what is up with auctions like these??
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...6336#mainImage

sl55 for 15K, i see auctions like this all the time on ebay, very low prices on high end cars, "restricted to pre-approved bidders"

Hmmm, pre-approved buyer? Sounds like potential identity theft dealer. You call in to give your personal information for credit check and worthiness, and before you can place the bid someone else is shopping on your behalf somewhere on this planet. It is kind of fishy this dealer going from selling $20 books to $120K Mercedes.

A warning to would-be suckers or even pranksters that just want to call this person up for fun (their phone number listed in the auction):

http://www.calling-plans.com/809-area-code.html

809, 284 and 876 Area Code Scams.

"The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has become aware of a long distance phone scam that may lead consumers to inadvertently ring up high charges on their phone bills.

The Scam Works Something Like This:
You get an e-mail, voicemail or page telling you to call a phone number with an 809, 284, or 876 (or some other three-digit) area code to collect a prize, find out about a sick relative, engage in sex talk, etc.

You assume you are making a domestic long distance call - as "809", "284", and "876" (and other three-digit area codes involved in this scam) appear to be typical three-digit U.S. area codes.

When you dial the "809", "284" or "876" (or other three-digit) area code plus the number, however, you're actually connected to a phone number outside the United States, often in Canada or the Caribbean, and charged international call rates. (In this case, 809 goes to the Dominican Republic, 284 goes to the British Virgin Islands, and 876 goes to Jamaica.)

You don't find out about the higher international call rates until you receive your phone bill.

what's weird is that the "seller" has lots of positive feedback and has been around for quite a while:

little unrelated but be careful if you find a message on your voice mail about credit cards or winning lottery and a number to call to verify. If you see "540" after the are code you'll get a nasty surprise, bill usually $50 per call. I had just this message once but did not call, although was very curious to find out whether I really won $750,000, that same night local news talked about that scam. Oh BTW this is in New York, not sure it is popular in other regions.

haha, had a 300e but rolled it, now have 90 and 93 civic hatches
you guys are not very ebay-going people are you?

the pre approved bidder list means you have to email the seller to give them your word you can go through with the auction(paying for it) so if your just some joe blow you dont waste all their time and money, sellers are charged 25 dollars plus additional listing fees for selling a automobile, plus a nice hefty sum of the final value,

i was charged 230 last month for selling some honda stuff, alot of stuff but still 230 is alot, they dont want you to waste their money becaus i k now how much a final value fee on a 100k sl55 would cost

also most the time there are "reserves" which means the seller sets a specific amount in which they will not sell the car unless the reserve price is met, becaus nobody won the bid

a sl55 will never have a selling price of 15k, you have to be a little more open minded

the moral of the story is you get what you pay for, and you will def not get a sl55 for 15k(becaus the auctions dont END at that price)

As with all BS ebay auctions:

"Invalid Item
The item you requested (2463748058) is invalid, still pending, or no longer in our database. Please check the number and try again. If this message persists, the item has either not started and is not yet available for viewing, or has expired and is no longer available."

Thats what I just got when trying to goto the site.
hammerdgolfer: Final value fees do exist on items and parts/accessories, but do not exist on vehicles. There is a $40 listing fee and a $40 "services" fee at the end of the auction.
