2013 C250 Sedan
dealer refuses to reset SIL

I have a C250 Sedan. I have 80K and service B is due. I changed the oil (with approved Mobil 1) engine air filter, Cabin Air Filter, new Spark Plugs, new front pads, flushed the brake fluid. I bought all MB parts and now the dealer WONT reset the Service indicator light (SIL) unless THEY do all of the work themselves and CHARGE me for the full service. The claim they have a liability if they reset the SIL without them doing the work. Three dealers have claimed this as their standard practice. I feel it is HIGHWAY ROBERY and all they are interested in is protecting their cash flow!

Has anyone had this happen and successfully gotten past this? I plan on contacting the California Bureau of Automotive Repair and open a complaint. Frustrated in SOCAL

BTW,I am willing to allow the dealer to perform the other required inspections and work, HOWEVER not willing to have then re-do my work.

Search engines are your friend. Seriously. Search first. Maybe something like, "How to reset mercedes service indicator light". Heck, a C300 is the first to pop up.

Hi I have just joined up yesterday, I have been on UK sites for a long time.

My service light question is slightly different. I bought the car used and privately so buyer beware was fully switched on but this slipped by me. The SIL is showing 16055 days past due which I worked out at about 44 years. The car was serviced last week by the local main dealer here in Spain and they told me that they could not reset it even on star. I had already tried you tube and google but that only gave me the method that I already knew. Anyone have any suggestions?

The car is a W211 E280 CDi 4 Matic.

Apologies for high jacking the thread, If I don't get any ideas I will post this as a new topic. Thanks in advance.

I have already exhausted all the search engine combinations, they all come back to the steering wheel buttons, which I have made several attempts and it's the final press on the confirm service and when I exit it just comes back to the service due in 16056 or so days.

I don't know where else to look for the info. I thought someone else may have had the problem in the past.

Do you have the key in position 2 (run) when you press the folder button to confirm service? This one has gotten me before when I had the key in position 1 and not 2.

PM me your email address.
