Do all Mercedes' have an AMG version?
Hi- I'm new at this, but i was wondring if all Mercedes-benz cars have an AMG version. I thought AMG was another name for the car. But after cruisin the forums here- I find myself learning that it is and upgrade kit. Can you get it for all mercedes cars? What does an AMG (upgrade kit)???? consist of?

It is not a "kit". You cannot make a non AMG car a real AMG by adding the body work etc. Not all styles have had an AMG version. It basically is a factory high performance version of a particular model. There are differences you wouldn't be able to duplicate afterwards. For instance, on the W210's, the E55 has a completely different transmission than the 320/430, different brakes, suspension, exhaust, ESP/ECU programming, dash cluster, steering wheel, seats/trim. There are "sport" versions of many models that look like an AMG, but it's only the body work. All AMG cars have hand built engines as well. The other "tuners" such as Lorinser, Brabus, etc. are added on parts and pieces to (usually) non AMG cars.

What Fast55 said about AMG vehicles applies to those that were built after their acquistion by Daimler. Before the acquistion, AMG modifications were available "ala carte" from AMG, so it was possible to order the engine modifications without the aero body work, and vice versa. Also, when AMG had its authorized center in the US, varying stages of tuning were also done on the North American cars.

In '98 I believe. You'll have a tough time finding AMG parts for older models. I don't believe they are still in the business of producing parts for the early models. Anything on the newer cars can still be purchased, but as replacement parts. There is no longer an AMG service center in the states, so you're on your own for installation in many cases since the dealers won't typically modify anything. They will install AMG wheels, possibly exhaust, but usually not much, if anything else. Some items are pretty easy to get, such as suspension, exhaust, trim. All cars since then are either full AMG models or not.

I believe AMG USA, Ltd. was in Illinois, but there was also a California shop that did AMG tuning as well (Beverly Hills Motors?). There was AMG Canada and AMG Japan, Ltd. as well.

In the UK you can, to a fashion.
You can order some thing called an Evolution Panorama AMG* package. You get AMG body styling, the alloy wheels, grille, stainless tailpipe and sportier interior with seats and leather trim.
So it's not uncommon to se a C180K AMG over here
