Ventilated Seats?
Last question. You guys have been great. Looking at the pictures in the new brochure that was emailed, there is the cooling feature for the seats like in the other Classes. (the three blue lights). What package includes that? It is not standard. The demo I drove was a base model that didn't include it. And I don't see a "Comfort Pkg".

Not available to us peons on the homeland
Yes, ventilated seats are available in the new GL, as you can see from the brochure pictures. But, you cannot have them if you live in the country where the new GL is assembled. You must live OUTSIDE the country to be able to get them. We are not worthy...is this leftover Juergen Shremp logic???

Over on the other forum...
Someone has posted that Option Code 401, Ventilated seats, are available in the US. While not on BYO, i'm sure they have made errors before.
Can anyone confirm that you have this, have ordered this, or have been told you could order this on a US-spec GL? And, what will the cost be?
I WANT WANT WANT those darn seats. Summers in my part of the Southeast are sweltering.

Has anyone had any experience with your dealer on this issue?

I have ventilated seats on a non mercedes (nicknamed fart fans by my son) and they are not really that effective. I would never pay extra for them again. Sure, they work, but they are not that big of a deal to command such an option price.

where do you live, cog? Just wondering if maybe the fart fans are more desirable according to climate. We have >95% humidity and >90 degrees most summer days, so i can't imagine how they wouldn't help???

Maryland, with plenty of humidity here. The fans definitely are not noticed if you have windows or the sunroof open. Where your body touches the seat, the ventilated holes in the leather seats are clogged. You only feel a slight cooling effect where the holes are uncovered and adjacent to the side of your body.

I have the AV seats on my S500 and E320 wagon. As great as the blue lights look, and as much as I like to have every switch and feature possible, these are not worth the cost. Even if they were $25, it would not be worth it.
Although there are 3 levels of cooling and 8-10 fans, they are not effective in making you feel cooler. I have had both of my cars in for service, convinced that they do not work right, but everything is within spec, and I sat in other cars just to verify.
MB's position is that they are only designed to keep air moving around your body so that you don't sweat. I do switch them on when I am wearing a suit, so as not to sweat, and I suppose they do help in this regard.
Conversely, I recently had a Cadillac DTS as a rental. It had cooled seats, and GM uses this cooled plate technology, and wow, do they every get cold. Pathetic that GM does something better than Benz.

The ventilation of the seats on Mercedes doesnt blow air onto your back, yet it sucks the moist air off your back. I am quite pleased with the ventilated seats in my cars. Can't say the same for other makes.
