Looking at buying a GL450 and need some help

Hello My wants the GL 450 and just wanted to know what options are got to have and which ones are not worth it. Also the dealer we are going use is offering $2500 below invoice. It seems that there is a large inventory at the dealers and I wounder if this is a good deal.

I doubt it's 2500 below invoice. Why would they sell a hot car, just declared MT car of the year, to you at a loss? As far as options go, get them all. Why not?

I see your in Carlsbad, which dealer is this? Hoehn, Escondido, or San Diego?

I would reccomend Premium 1 package, R55 Appearance Package, Xenon lights, premium leather with ambient lighting, rearview camera, and 3 zone climate control along with multicontour seats for those long drives.

Check out Laguna Niguel, talk with vadim and see what he can help you out with. his SN here is Vadim@MBNL

Don't forget the sunroof package - they aren't standard, you do have to specify it. Also, I love my iPod integration.

Only thing I regret not having is the vcs and the rearview camera neither of these were listed anywhere as available when I ordered mine in July but I found out later I could have ordered them anyway.

I got mine for $500 over invoice which amounted to about $3500 below msrp...but, I bought mine in Maryland.

2500 under MSRP may not be that great of a deal depending on options.

Thumbs up Invoice price is not a loss for dealer

Believe me, dealers still get atleast 2-3k incentive for each car even if they sell it at invoice price (Thanks to Edmunds.com). I got mine two weeks ago for $1000 below invoice.
Check this posting about what others are paying for this car: http://www.benzworld.org/forums/gl-c...ting-gl-2.html (I posted my price with name Aadityav).

Selling a car at invoice price is not a loss for any dealer (profit margin may be less depending on their other expenses like how much they pay for their employees and other operating expenses). The invoice includes delivery charges from factory and any advertising cost. So basically anything you pay over invoice is their *extra* profit over that 2-3k incentive.

Yeah, GL is MT Car of the year, and selling like hot cake, but if you live in a area where 3-4 dealers are within 100mi range, you might want to take advantage of that, ie. they defintely want to compete for your business.
"It doesn't hurt to ask". I drove 37mi to get my GL although I had a dealer within 1.5 mi from my home (its worth it, diff $2.5k).

BTW I mostly finished my deal thru emails and phone before meeting in person, bcos the sales people know how to intimidate you and make you feel
you will never get the price you are asking from any other dealer.

Good luck buddy

Not a big difference in looks between the MB Tex and the leather that is in my ML, but is it in more locations that matter in the GL? I expected that I was going to get an Ipod to use without the integration (search the forum for integration problems), but having Sirius radio cured that thought. We would not have ordered it separately in a 2006, but it came in one of our 2007 premium packages, and has become the favorite option, along with navigation (it's my wife's vehicle). I would have ordered P1, trailer hitch, rear camera (nice safety device) and lighting in a GL with a 320 cdi engine, and cut out MB profit on the rest of the stuff.

the GL has more leather. If you get the leather pkg u get a leather dash, and door panel inserts.

07 GL450,
If I could order my gl again I would get the off-road diffs just for the adjustable shocks. I would leave off the sunroof but would still get the HK audio as it is required to get the hands free setup. I still think the premium package includes too many things that I would not be willing to pay for.

My wife and I got our's at invoice, and I'm in a high demand area. Agreed with the other folks that even in a high demand area all you need to do is play the dealers off of each other a bit and they cave pretty fast. As far as options, we got our's a bit different than what seems to be the norm. The major item we passed on is the leather - the standard material seemed fine, and we understand that it holds up better and cleans up better. If you have little kids like we do this has value (in addition to saving the option cost). We also did not get the appearance package so that we'd have the standard 18" wheels to better fit snow tires - I'll order a separate set of 20" wheels and summer tires come spring. We did get premium pkg, nav, keyless go (great if you are managing the kids and don't want to dig for the key), bluetooth, tow package (for bike-rack purposes), rearview camera and the off-road package. We wanted the offroad because it has the skid plates we missed out on by not getting the appearance package and also because we wanted the adjustable shocks. Good luck!

Thanks for all your help

Just purchased a new GL450 last night for $500 over invoice thanks to all the people that replied. Dealer had no problem with the price and we ended up saving several thousand dollars. Again thanks for the help

Enterprise rent-a-car!!!
Hey Guys when buying a car, always ask the dealer what the "Employee purchase" price is. That is the true "invoice" on the car. Normally about 13% below the sticker price. So do the math. Also if there are any factory incentives on the car from the factory you can get that on top of the employee price. The dealers have lots of inventory and MB are getting desperate to move them, they are really hurting right now. Go shopping.

Hmmm...where is your information from...the latest numbers released have Mercedes propping up DCX from even bigger losses with sales numbers that are continually setting records...
