2008 GL63 AMG Version?
#2
I thought that AMG said that they were not interested in doing a version for the GL. The coment was along the lines of the GL does not fit the feel of what AMG is about and could never feel sporty with that much weight and high center of gravity. Pics could be of a big engined version without being designated AMG model, that said never say never.

I know that they are and have been doing the GL63 test mules.
I know that one or more of those test mules has been running at the Nurburgring -- and it is assumed that they have accomplished what they wished to learn there, and are done with that phase.
I don't know that the pictures posted at the start of this thread are indeed of an actual test mule. I do notice that it is not wearing body camoflague....
It could be a test mule....
That clearer?

Definitely no GL63 AMG
Edmunds posted this interview with the man himself, Volker Mornhinweg - the Boss at AMG.
From the interview:
Does this signal a change in strategy?
We must think more clearly about our products. In 1999, the policy was for AMG to produce a top-of-the-line version of each model, but this has changed. There will not be an AMG version of the [European] A-Class or B-Class. There is huge demand for the ML63, but AMG won't produce a derivative of the new GL-Class.

I read in Top Gear a few months back (they did a GL in depth) that AMG officials "indicated" there would be a GL63. Of course some of you guys have stronger information than this but I simply take the view that there's an R63 so why not?

Well, Edmunds just gave the R63 rave reviews -- so maybe we don't 'need' a GL63 over here in the States. Maybe MBUSA made the call on no GL63 here in the States....
I guarentee you that the AMG Performance Studio will plop a 6.3L V8 in that puppy for me and perform the rest of the AMG treatment to the suspension, brakes, etc. -- without any help or hindrance from MBUSA.
