Sirus Satellite Option in Canada

Hi all:

Just purchased a new 2007 GL today - will be picking it up next Saturday. It's a Cubanite Silver Metallic with the Premium Package. Looking forward to getting it.

Not sure you folks from south of the border would know the answer to this, but just in case ...

I was dissapointed that in Canada, for some reason, the Sirius Satellite Radio option is not available (its on the order sheet, but cannot be ordered). The dealer told me that MB has some issues with Sirius in Canada. While the vehicles are manufactured with the radio build in, apparently they are disconnected before entry to Canada.

Anyone know the details behind this? Is the radio there and can it be reconnected? Will MB be resolving this anytime soon?

Any insight would be appreciated - I have sat radio in 2 other vehicles and would not want to do with out it.

Cheers.

I don't know about them disconnecting it but I would think they just did not even install it at all.

Very interesting ... I ordered an 08 GL 320 about a month ago with Nov. delivery and fully expecting it to have Sirius Radio which is listed as standard equip. on the order form. I'll be checking with my dealer in Vancouver.

I don't know which sat radio you have on your other vehicles but it might be how Sirius is delivered that makes a difference. XM uses two geostationary satellites for the east and west coast ("Rock" and "Roll" are their names, really) where Sirius (if I understand it correctly) uses a small constellation of satellites in a tight equatorial orbit, so that at least one is available to use where you are. It might not be something that moves far enough north to guarantee reception in Canada. Sorry!

I believe Sirius should cover Canada as there is always one satellite over CA at anytime. I don't think it's coverage that's the problem. Check out this site.

Sirus Satellite Radio in Canada

Sirus is listed as a 2008 option for MB in Canada. I understand from my dealer that there was a disagreement between Sirus and MB Canada. This has apparently now been resolved. I take delivery of a new 2008 GL 450 on Sept 18 and shall advise if Sirius is working (as I understand it to be).

Aaaaah! I know a lot more about XM than Sirius (as evidenced by my clear ignorance of how Sirius is delivered). To quote the Cave Men, "Next time, do a little research first!" (So easy, even I can do it!)

Took delivery of our new GL 450 today in Calgary - activated Sirius within an hour of taking delivery (took 5 minutes on the phone with a credit card). No problems - Sirius works great.
