Smile GL450 Issue

Hi,

Got my GL450 blk/blk couple weeks ago. There is something I would like to share. Not sure if a known issue or just the car was built this way.

My GL450 has keyless go entry. Try this. After you stop the car, leave the gear switch to "D" mode. Press the 'STOP' button. The engine will actually just STOP and while you are in "D" mode, the car will slide like in "N" mode. I tested it on up hill, so my GL slide backyards.

The reason I want to bring it up cause my other 2003 E500 keyless go entry acts totally different. While your engine is on, and in "D" mode. Even you try to press the 'STOP" button, The display will show in RED, telling you that your car is not in park mode or something. So you can't really press the stop engine button while you have the gear swift to "D".

Just curious cause it acts little different. I javen't tried to use the actual key to turn it off.

Yes, but I am not sure if this apply only to my GL450 or others are the same. I will need to goto the dealer and find out.

If someone has the same issue, please share with me.

are you sure? It should roll a little bit but the park mechanism should catch. Pressing stop while in D is supposed to automatically engage PARK, u have to press the brake pedal and be at a dead stop tho.

Sorry about the KG issues, i don't have to worry about them with my regular key ignition. Regarless, the paint on your GL looks like GLASS, what do you put on it? Also, the paint color on your 996 is AMAZING

That GL surely is glossy. Someone has been working their a__ to get it looking that good. Black is the worst color to maintain, but nothing shines as good when it is clean.

Hi Kar don,

The reason I notice that the car sliding backwards is I parked my car up hill, When I got to my office, I stop the car, but by accident I thought I push the button to "D" but I didn't. I then press the STOP button, when I let go the brake, the car went backwards, it didn't engage the Park Mode. I think I need to do a video to show you guys hehehe.

i dont own a GL, but the new S-class has the direct select as well and u can just hit stop while in D. Same with the R-class. I would assume the same is for the GL. The cars do roll back more than others i have noticed, did you try letting off the brake slowly to see how much it rolls?

my 2005 SL has keyless go and it shows a red warning screen if you try to shut it off in any gear other than park...so i'd assume that would be the same for all other MB's with keyless go...I'd take it to the dealer and have them check it out

Hi Blazinginder, Yes this is correct. On my 2003 E500 keyless go, it will show a red warning also. But not on the GL450. I just post a video that I did this morning to show you guys.

I would assume they should all act the same. But it just won't show me the red message. Did you see the video I posted?

It doesn't happen on the SL nor the E because of the traditional gear shifter. Since the GL is electronic, it can put itself in park on its own now, and you won't get that warning.

I don't know if this only happens to Mercedes , cauuse BMW 7 series using the same electronic gear shifter, they will not allow you to stop the engine while in "D" mode.
