Heat blowing cold air

Anyone else notice when the GL450 is cold the heat on auto mode blows cold air instead of waiting for the heat to be hot enough to blow?

Really annoying in the early AM. Obviously the fix is to just turn off the Climate system until the car warms up but that doesnt seem right. In the S, the climate wont blow anything until that warm temp is reached.

Unless I am doing something wrong?

I don't have mine yet, but your report is disheartening...that's a terrible "feature" of the HVAC system if what you say is right (maybe you have a problem going on??)

My 86 300E didn't blow air til it warmed up...

My GL doesn't blow anything until it is at least warmish and then it gets to hot pretty quick.

Make sure the setting is on auto. It won't blow initially. But if you manually turn on the fan you will get cold air blowing.

It perform just like on your S. Have your dealer fix it.

I agree - leave it on AUTO... Mine starts making hot air after one minute - not bad considering Diesels don't generate heat the way a gas engine does....

And in Phoenix tonight is gonna be 29 degrees (-1.5c) where I live, so it does get cold here

Is yours a Diesel? Are you overiding the AUTO function with the FAN before the engine has time to build heat?

Its a gas car and I always have it on Auto and it will gently blow cold air out of the upper vents until the car warms up. I never touch the fan button. I am waiting for the 1000 mile service and then I'll have them look at that too.
