MHI Bluetooth Interface Module Installation - Need Help

Hello all, I just got the MHI Bluetooth Interface Module from wireless4mb.com and wanted to know where/how to install the unit. Does it go into the center console compartment? If so, how do I remove the black plastic thingy in the middle?

Grab the cover and give it a good tug and it should come off and slide in the BT module. It works great!

Does the BT Module work with any phone?

Hey,

Does the BT module work with any phone or is it specific to certain phones. How much does it normally cost at a dealer compared to www.wireless4mb.com?

How is the quality of the voice?

thanks

Contrary to what the official "line" is from wireless4mb, any phone with bluetooth should connect-with the caveat that some of the features may be non-existent or limited. There is a list in the audio section of these forums.

I had a Treo 650, now a 680, both are not "approved" but both work great for me. the whole contact list doesn't download, but every one of my favorites (most contacted list) does...

My Motorola RZR V3 & V3i phones work perfect to me and phone book loads very fast. But my treo 650 is not that fast compared to Razor phones and the phone book will not load at all.

I prefer
Motorola RZR V3/V3i

Rzr

I would like to get the Bluetooth cradle for my car. It allows both attached as well as detached usage. The folks at wireless4mb are telling me that I need to get their version of the RZR V3 because of specific software. I can get the phone from Verizon since I have been using their service for years for a lot less money.
Does anyone know?
TIA
John

It is my opinion that wireless4mb's approved phones are a bit of a scam-yes, they are guaranteed to work, but plenty of others are fine too. It's proprietary branding, not software-as in, it's not like the approved verizon phone carries wireless4mb software or anything, they've just tested THAT version...

As i've stated before, my treos both worked (not on the list at all), and my wife's cingular-branded razr is perfect (not their version of the razr).

They got me nervous in the begining with "you must have firmware version xxx on your SLVR to work properly with the MHI Interface Module." Guess what!!!? I didn't update the firmware on my phones and it's working fine

Switch to private mode while in bluetooth speakerphone

Is it possible to switch out of bluetooth speakerphone mode via MHI interface module in mid conversation to "private" handheld mode?

Agree...they are protecting their butts (MB that is) by stating that only approved phones will work. They have tested these models and they work with COMAND so therefore "we can only certify that the appoved phones will work." If you buy a cradle or BT module and your "non-approved phone" will not work with COMAND for all features, then they have their statement to fall back on.

depending on your phone and puck setup, you can disengage on the phone itself or by pressing the phone button on comand.

Question I cant get my MHI to work with Blackberry or Razr.

I have tried with both phones in mine and my wife's cars S500 and GL450 but cant get cell phones to work with MHI Bluetooth. My phones do work with other bluetooth devices. How can i tell if the MHI unit is bad? other suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Hi Gregg, the BB 7290 "should" work... Check out this URL http://www.whnet.com/4x4/phones.html it list the BB 7290 as compatible with the MHI module. As carpersn suggested, try the instructions from wireless4mb.com again. I'll look around in the mean time :-)

Thinking about getting one on ebay for my wife's SLK 280

I am thinking about getting one of these from ebay - of course there are no instructions that come with. My wife's SLK280 (2007) has the "call for help" feature, so I assume this is all I need for this module to work (is this true?)

Were you able to install this yourself? Was this as easy as this post makes it sound - remove the plastic, install the module and you are done?

Are there any wires or connectors I need to be aware of?

On closer inspection, my center console does not have the black thingy that you show in you picture. There is only a small cap - and when you remove it, there is a red bolt with a nut under it (I thought it was a red button at first.) Does this mean I am shot dead in the water?

Thanks in advance,
Jordan

Your wife's SLK needs to be prewired for Handsfree Phone Interface for this to work. I know in GL, this prewiring was included as part of P1 but am not sure by SLK. Check with dealer to be sure. However, with your description of red bolt and nut under the plastic cover, it doesn't seem like your SLK is prewired.

Alternatives?

Well that's no fair. What alternatives do I have for a factory-look bluetooth solution? I was considering a garmin or similar dash-mounted device, but the one I tried didn't work very well.

Any suggestions?

thanks,
Jordan

You may get dealer to put in the wiring, etc. that will be needed. My guess is that it will cost a bit. A Garmin or other dash based solution is not bad.

As Nish indicates, you can have SLK updated. I think the kit and install runs about $1200-1500 + the puck. YMMV on the price, check with the dealer.
