Thumbs up New GL550

Just read that Mercedes is coming out with the GL550 (482HP) next year...was going to trade my wife's X5 4.4i in for the GL450 this year, but we are now going to wait for the GL550...anyone know what the price will be?

It's only 382hp like the rest of the 550's. No idea on pricing.

My sales guy suggested it would be one class up, so figure another $25k MSRP. Going after the Cayenne Turbo, the higher Ranger Rovers, etc.

He'd be wrong on that. There is no way the GL550 is going to be 25K more than the GL450's base price. Now it may wind up being 25K more if you compare a loaded GL550 to a base, stripped GL450, but why anyone would do that is beyond me.

I bet it will come in somwhere between 65-71K at the most, and that will be a with a load of standards over the 450 model.

What a surprise, a sales guy telling you that if you don't buy today and wait...you will pay dearly.

It will likely cost a little more than what the Premiere edition GL's did The HP increase is only 50 which in a car of this size is nothing to get very excited about.

GL450 (Alabaster White/Black Interior)
My dealer also told me $10,000 more for the GL550. She also indicated that there would not be any additional standard equipment on the 550 versus the 450 but that it was a possibility.....

07 GL 450 / 03 E500 / 03 Z06 / 08 GL 550 due fall 07
My local dealer told me the 550 motor will not be identical to the pass car version and should be HP rated at 400 +. To be available this fall we'll see..............

Not to dispute your dealer, but I think he is wrong. The 550 motor is currently available in the GL in Europe and is rated at 382 horsepower. Just my 2 cents.......

Yeah I doubt they'll up the hp by 12 just for the GL, but you never know.

Not just that, but aren't most truck-engines detuned a bit for a little more torque?

For Europe spec. cars gas versions have exactly the same hp/torque ratings (except 63 AMG where ML gets 4 hp less than E63 and 15 hp less than S/CL63).

Diesel versions have more distinctions.
320 CDI...
ML/GL 224hp/510NM torque
E/CLS 224hp/540NM torque
S 235hp/540NM torque

420 CDI...
ML/GL 306hp/700NM torque
E 314hp/730NM torque
S 325hp/730NM torque

Some are, but Mercedes doesn't usually bother. I think they should especially in some of the V6 models like the ML350, but it doesn't seem to be a concern of buyers.

07 GL 450 / 03 E500 / 03 Z06 / 08 GL 550 due fall 07
Spoke with my dealer again and tried to place an order for a 2008 GL550. They could not take an order yet, but I am the first one on their list.

They said the current GL 450 and a GL 550 would be offered for 2008. The GL 450 would be produced in relatively high numbers and the GL 550 in low numbers. They again said the engine would not be the 550 pass car engine or the euro engine. Higher torque/HP. This could be interesting if they know what they are talking about.
