ss tubular step install?

Getting gl next week.

Are the step rails a DIY project or better left to the dealer.

I'm for sure putting the SS rear bumper plate on myself.

Has anyone found the ss front and rear skid plates yet?

thanks

One dealer told me that tubular side steps took 7 hours to install and required a ton of drilling. I am taking that with a huge lump of salt.

Part #s for front and rear skid plates are -

Front skid plate - 6688-0166 ($413)
Rear skid plate - 6688-0165 ($229)

I haven't checked availability yet. If you do check, please, post.

My buddy was a service writer at Benz...

He was under the impression that they were just a few bolts on each side.

I would suspect they holes are present from the factory.

So would I. Probably have plugs or bolts in them, but I can't imagine the dealers having to drill and tap the holes...too much margin for error. Plus, if they all didn't have the holes, the factory would have to do it to each chassis as it came down the line depending on options and that would be time consuming for a production line.

I will have my truck on Wed. If all goes as planned, I will have rims, and steps to install (or done) by this time next week.

These ss running boards are well beyond my ability as a diy'er.

you need to remove the black plastic that runs the length of the truck just below the doors to access the frame, then reinstall it.

I took 5 small bolts out and gave up. Dealer putting it on for 375.00 on Friday.

ss rear bumper plate was easy.

So, you prefer those to the PE running boards? You're one of the few (i almost ordered those rather than the PE's)...post some pics when you have them installed. I'd like to see them in the flesh.

When I was ordering our GL, the dealership had a black one in the lobby with aftermarket chrome rims, the side steps and some other little chrome add-ons out of the ac. book...that is what sold me on the truck.

will have pics up this weekend hopefully.

PSOAS,

What did they charge you for those tubular side steps at your dealership? I am assuming that if I ordered these and did not like them I would be SOL.... Definetely post pics when you can. They look really nice in the accessory catolog but I would love to see them in "real life."

Thanks,

Jeff
