Painted Lower Bumper Covers and Rocker

Needed to take the GL in to the body shop after my bride side swiped a moving semi at 70 mph, (I have no idea how she does that, but anyway), while it getting repaired I decided to have the lower black plastic panels painted. The truck looks so much better. So, I thought I would post the pics.

Will the paint fuse well with the plastic panels? Did they use a special painting process?

It looks great.

I have the same questions that Love my GL has. Also, did the dealer do it or did you go to an independent paint shop?

Look great!

I had my front bumper cover repainted at the dealer after a small scratch. Body shop manager showed me special bumper primer adhesive that was used as well as chip resistant paint. Looks perfect. So far no stone chips or other marks.

Don't know if special process or items used.

The truck was in the shop, I asked that since it was there and they would be doing plenty of painting could they paint the lower black pannels. The reply was that they may not be able to, but would check. A day later I got a call from the shop saying they could paint them, I said go for it.

My dealer does not have a body shop, they use a shop in Denver for all of their 'Dealer' work. We have used the shop 3 or 4 times over the past 10 years for minor and major work, never a problem, so I assume they knew what they were doing.

Did you get yours at Murray or Westminster MB?

Living in Colorado, I'm dying to hear what you think of the beast when you head up to the mountains. Give her a good punch when you're on I-70, just after you past C-470, and let us know how she ripped it to shreds!

I will be testing all of I-70 when I pick up mine. Will be interesting to see how the diesel makes the climb up after I leave Denver heading to LV.

Stumble -Picked her up at Littleton in Sept, has nearly 10k on her. She roars up to the tunnel with little effort, having run a loaner diesel E up to Breck a few times, I can only imagine how smooth NJ's CDI will be making that run.

Now that is a beautiful thing... making the tunnel with very little effort. Keep having fun!

Nevada, are you getting yours at Westminster? If so, you'll have to give me a jingle when you start back to Vegas, as I live only 5 miles south of I-70 in Evergreen, CO. I'll treat you to a meal at one of Evergreen's finer establishments, regardless of the time of day you pass through.

I can hardly wait to hear what you think of that diesel once she starts making the 45 minute climb to the tunnel. Heck, you're going to have a great and fun drive all the way back to the desert! I've done it before in a friends Cayenne and it's a hoot, especially when you can really let her rip west of Glenwood Springs. Unfortunately, not much civilization past Grand Junction until you reach St. George, Utah, but there are some awesome climbs and curves along the way!

Hang in there as you anticipate the arrival of your GL320!

Thanks for the invite...will have to see how the schedule looks. I am planning to make the run in one day to Denver, stay over night and make the return home the next day.

I made that trip in my S550 in April '06 from Westminster. Fanatastic ride all the way. Hit a small blizzard up the hill and ran scared until I started down and on to dry pavement. Looking forward to it in the GL...:-)

Now here's a fella who knows how to drive. What a trip!

That section going downhill is a lot of fun in the snow... especially when you have an 18-wheeler barreling down behind you without any brakes, racing to the runaway truck ramps to stop.

I was really had white knuckles going over the moutains. Snow trucks, salt and sand all over the place, trying to keep pace with the nuts ahead of me and behind me. All I could see was my new $100K car deep in a snow bank somewhere...:-) Once I got clear of the Rockies the trip was fine...some heavy rain showers to clean off the crud from the car and no cops to bother me on the open stretches...
