what are most paying?
Thought about getting one when they first came out, but dealers were not selling much off msrp. Can anyone tell me what % they have been able to knock off the msrp price????
Thanks so much.

It really depends on your market area. In the SF Bay area, at the end of April I ended up at $600 over invoice for a loaded GL that started as a factory order for me. Less loaded, sitting on the lot for awhile, maybe at or below invoice.

Just depends on the area. The GL is one of the hottest selling products right now, but if you're willing to haggle and dealer wants to deal, you can come out with a good deal. I would say most of the time $2k off MSRP is about the most any will go...unless you have some like we did and were able to knock $4k off MSRP (courtesy cars for a golf tourney).

Did you have a trade? I got $1500 off sticker, which was not great, but they gave me a bunch of money -- more than I was looking for -- for my trade. And since the car had to be built, and they wanted the trade in right then, I drove one their cars -- 2006 R350 -- for two and half months for free as part of the deal.
In the end, I got exactly the car I wanted, with pretty good service from the dealer to meet my needs. But as for the money part of the deal, I doubt it was spectacular.

So I was wondering if after two and a half months you found the GL just much nicer to drive? I had found the R's driving position too low, and that it didn't have the solid on-the-road feel I get from the GL. To me it felt like they'd tried to make a six-seat sports car, or maybe something half station-wagon and half mini-van. There was just something "not right" about it.
After a much longer term drive (you drove that longer than I've even had my GL!) what was your impression of driving it?

This could possibly be a new thread but you did bring it up here so I was wondering; in my breif experience driving the R, the thing that turned me off was the styling cues - it just didn't excite me. My biggest reason for looking at it at all was the unbelievable financing they were offering (I guess those guys aren't selling?)

I couldn't agree more with what you have said. Driving the R was like sitting in a hole in a cave. The seats were low and it was very hard to see out of the back, with a small rear window and huge blind spots in the back rear quarters. The power with the GL 320 is much better than the 278 hp V6 in the R. The fit and finish and seating position in the GL is WAY superior to the R I drove. But the second row captain's chairs were jammin'! The R gets terrible gas mileage compared to the GL 320 as well. I suppose my impressions would have been different if I had driven an R 320 CDI with comparable equipment to my GL 320 which is fully loaded except for Distronic and Keyless go....but I doubt it. I did not find the styling offensive and sort of like the rounded aspects at the rear, and I loved the easy entry and exit afforded by the HUGE rear doors....
I could drive an R class, but there are other things (like my GL) that I like much better. Let me say this: the R is a more preferable car for my needs than the 2006 LX 470 I traded in.....

Like I said, the most attractive thing about the R was its financing, to me. I just thought it looked, I dunno, like an overgrown station wagon.
