Question Phonebook with Bluetooth Question

I use a Razr in my GL. The phonebook comes up in the multifuntion window but I cannot do anything with the numbers that I can scroll through. Is there a way to dial these numbers that are in the window?

do you have the bluetooth "puck"? If you do and I am understanding your question correctly, you can scroll thru the names with the joystick then just press the joystick in to call or press the send button on the screen. No reason why it shouldnt work!

I have the same setup ..... I push the "phone off the hook" button on the steering wheel to dial the number.

+1 I scroll through the numbers on the display with the up/down arrows on the left side of the steering wheel then push the "phone off hook button."

And this is the puck, installed and taking up a huge portion of the upper center console. By the looks of it, it's around 100x larger than it needs to be. Don't mind the fingerprints, they only show up with the flash!

By the way, isn't there supposed to be something like a coin holder or some such in the upper console lid?

Check eBay also. Some dealers sell this puck there cheaper than regular pricing.

Thanks! I learned not to put coins in the upper console lid. I think there is a coin holder in the lower portion, but I can't figure it out. I use the center tray in the dash for coins.

I believe you scroll through the numbers using up/down arrows and then hit the "picked up" phone button to call the number currently displayed. You hit the ""laying down" phone button to hang up.

Yeah....I really don't understand it......the bluetooth system in my 05 Grand Cherokee was built- in. I mean, it's nothing more than electronic chips....should be part of the Command system. This thing reminds me of the early days of "mobile phones"..........granted, it works fine!

I after-marketed (is that a word?) an Avic Z1 in my LX470, and it was something they plugged in to the back. Everything was behind the dash. It was also about $90, I think. I guess they want you to feel impressed with what you're buying for $400?

Something else I don't get...

There seems to be about a 30 second interval after starting the car during which the phone will sync. If the phone isn't in the car or isn't turned on during this time, you have to push the "Tel" button to get them to sync.

Why not allow "sync-ing" at all times? This is the way my 645 works: turn the phone on at any time and it will pair. There's also no "puck" involved, either.

Yup......it's "old technology" BUT their 4-matic and off-road locking differential system are "top tech" ..... who knows "what lurks in the minds" of the engineers at MB

Great point, blittle. Been dabbling in computers myself and being a technology aficionado, I can tell you that MB has to design for "max compatibility" as possible. Cell phone manufacturers and phone companies are notorious for not following the standards in US. And. MB sells worldwide so they go with the proven (read older) standards when it comes to tech. Feel free to shred my theory.

As you might note when logging in to Mercedes' wireless solutions website (http://www.wireless4mb.com/), the problem is one of a standard - like so much else in the high tech world. Several Motorola phones are compatible, like my wife's, able to be used for more than just a hands-free device. Others, like my LG, are only good for hands-free and compatible with what's been accepted as the BlueTooth standard the puck's compatible with.

This, of course, is evolving, as they are now promising a BlueTooth 2.0 compatability, but that doesn't mean the phones will be 2.0 compatible! It is just nice to have the hands-free, for me.

On my BMW board BT phones are discussed a lot. Virtually everyone can connect their phone although the degree of functionality varies by phone brand and carrier, e.g. recently dialed list, 3 way, number of address book transfers, etc. BMW sells worldwide so I don't think that's the issue. My Bimmer also has no puck or 30 sec sync time. I don't want to make this a MB vs BMW issue - IMO, BMW has done a better job of implementing BT to the same "max compatability" standards faced by MB, and if they can, so could MB.
