Hmmm, not listing the PE running boards as an option, even though they were with MY07. IIRC, the accessory catalog is now showing them.

Dealer installed accessories are not listed...only factory options.

Aluminum Running Boards listed are the P.E. Running boards.

"IIRC" means, "If I recall correctly." PE running boards were originally installed on the 750 Premier Edition GL's that were made when they model first came out, hence the name we call them, "PE boards." They can be dealer installed, but are much less expensive as a factory option (the are option code 846.) I have them on my GL as do several others. Here's a pic that shows them fairly well...

Box Boss: Your GL is spectacular. It really shows how much the Running boards complete the shape of the 450.
Are those M-B 19's?

IMO, you did the right thing Fahrer. But the question still is where you get this info from? It's just that verifiable sources add a lot of the weight to info being shared.

2006 C230; 2007 GL450 (2008 GL450 on order and due to arrive early to mid Aug.)
GL Fahrer/Driver is absolutely correct here guys. My wife's '07 GL450 is being replaced by an '08 GL450 to be delivered in early to mid-August. When I was going over the order with my rep (who is very knowledgable), I was told that the Sunroof Package no longer existed and that all of those items were now included in the P1 Package (I posted this info a few days ago). I was also told (and stated in the same post) that the rear camera was also now in the P1. The list posted above for the options contained in the P1 is exactly what my dealer told me ... and is listed above in the exact same order that was told to me.

I don't know where GL Fahrer/Driver gets his info, but it is the most detailed and accurate info I've seen so far.

They look great...do you have All-Season tires on those 20's?
I've had issues finding All-Season's for the 20" 8.5J (275/50) like those on the P.E.

Nice

Thanks for the info. makes me wonder though. If one does not take P2 there is no option for xenons ? Why not offer xenon a standard .

That is no change from '07 models, except it was called the Appearance Pkg.

Dang-no multicontour? That bites. Although the rest of the packaging makes more sense than the piece-meal BS from 07.

And i have an 07 with the 19" wheels...did you mean NOT available on 08 CDI's.

Since they added wood/leather steering wheel to full leather pkg, and heating pkg has been mutually exclusive of that wheel , it looks like you can't have full leather and heated rear seats in '08 ?Also, does heated washer fluid come std across the line now, since it's not listed in heating pkg here. Those of us who spend significant time in snow country need to know.

That was a part of Lighting package and not Heating package.

Thanks for posting the pricing. P2 makes a lot of sense and pricing is not too shabby either.

Take those figures above and load up the 450 + '08 price increase you are looking at about $68-70K for it not including the Distronic. Include the RSE.

Load up a base GL550 with all these goodies + additional standard features and the 382HP V8 and you are easily talking around $80K. Add $5K to that and you can buy a pretty nice base S Class 550??????

But of course you can't seat 7 in the S.

I must say, the list of options for the GL which should be standard is shocking. I specced up a GL450 on the site and it came to over 70k. With cars like the RRS S/C, everything is standard bar rear screens (like 2k extra) so the 71k list is as honest as the GLs list is misleading.

It's a shame, as the GL450 is a great vehicle. Classier than a Suburban and much better looking than an Escalade ESV.

One final point is I don't really think the GL550s extra 45bhp will sway too many people, unless they uprate the brakes and offer other additional benefits. I could well be wrong, however. Any plans to offer the 420CDI stateside?

Yes, but can you seat seven people in the S-class, plus groceries? I'm not talking bodies in the trunk, Tony, I mean butts in seats!

I thing we were making the same point...when the SUV's start approaching top of the line sedans in pricing there is something amiss. Many of the features as extras on the GL are standard on the new S and the technology and materials are at a higher level of excellence. I came very close to making a switch and my GL320CDI package came to $72850 without the RSE...

I will wait and see if the E wagon will get a Bluetec in 2009 or 2010...it will cost less than the GL and will have a higher level of finish. The GL is a great package and a great vehicle...I just think MB is pushing the option pricing too far.

The GL420 will come here but probably as a Bluetec in '09 or '10 depending on the Urea standards. However, they may handle it like the GL550 with standard everything and price it accordingly.
