Air suspension?

Anyone have any issues with standard air suspension? Today the rear of the GL dropped about 3-4 inches and it felt like the rear had no shocks or springs. Called my SA who recommended against driving car in and is having it towed. He said he has seen a few that dropped enough to be undrivable. I have had an air suspension on several cars and never had any problem, I thought they were pretty bullet proof.

Just for the sake of information, what's the mileage? Are you doing a lot of highway driving, city driving, any off-roading, that kind of thing? A lot of parking lots or other areas with like speed bumps or tables?

And when was your GL built? Early models had some defective air pumps. Symptoms resemble your description. Models built in the past several months seem to be OK.

My GL has 2900 easy miles, mix of local and highway no off road, not even a significant bump - built Nov 2006. PS tow guy says he is starting to see a few GL's with front suspension malfunctions. Said mine was first where rear suspension collapsed. I let you know what dealer says tomorrow.

Hmmm...I thought they fixed the problem by then. Most models with the bad pumps were built in summer 2006. Please let us know what they end up finding and what was the resolution.

Damn, MB should've asked Land Rover about air suspension.
Is it the pump or the switch?

Got my car back this am, a failed, leaky, compressor damaged a relay and fuse. I was surprised that dealer was able to fix it first thing this morning. SA said they have seen repeated failures like mine and keep several compressors on hand hence the rapid repair. I wonder if hot weather in Fl has anything to do with it. Has anyone seen any thing that would help identify air suspension problems before the vehicle becomes undrivable or has there been any recent software change that would put the air suspension in a limp home mode before it collapses.

I've not heard of anything like this in Arizona, and we got HOT. I'm at nearly 8000 miles on mine (I should check that) without any suspension problems. (Though I have been know to be startled by the weird noises it makes when you open the front door.)
