After the 13 mile Scenic Drive and exit the area to return to LV, there is a scenic overlook a short distance from the exit. This shot was shot from that parking area.

This shot was at 300mm, hand-held and is the middle shot in a burst mode of 10 images of a Hummer leaving a Stop sign.. Focus held on all the images and the IQ (image quality) is really nice.

All Canon. I just got the new 40D SLR and I have 6 lenses to go with it. All the images posted were with the Canon 20D which is about 3 years old. I am adjusting to the new SLR which has some great new features and test images show great improvement in the auto-focus.

BTW...because of the sensor size, the 300mm lens actually acts like a 420mm which is a nice + for less than full frame cameras.

Yes, I'm getting the same percentage of increase on focal length. The lens focal lengths are all quoted for 35mm. Digital gets a boost. Sometimes this is good, but wide-angle lens aren't as wide since they get the same increase.

Hi Mary...with that new lens of yours you should be getting some fantastic IQ.
The new camera is baffling to me trying to get the right combo of AutoFocus and Metering setup. Understanding the manual and the menu custom options will take me awhile. Nice thing though, the life preserver Automatic mode hides all ignorance and makes it like a nice P&S...:-)

I knew it had to be Canon. That's my next investment. My Sony camera is getting old after 5 years, and too slow to shoot racecars.
Where did you get yours Jack? Did you take those pics recently?
I'd like to take the cars to a rooftop, or more "urban" scenery, let me see if there is something I can arrange, maybe an industrial area?
Kardon, you can rent one, or you can drive my ML, or bring you own ride, just show up.

Pics were take about a year or so ago. We have a pretty big group so it will not be easy to find a place.

Big group? I count only ten people, ten trucks for Friday dinner. Is there anybody else showing up Saturday morning? How many trucks total?
Let's ask our "friends" at FJ to see if they will let us use part of their lot for the pics

10 vehicles is correct, but there are 21 folks for dinner Friday night. Don't know if others are showing up for Saturday.

Saturday Lunch Count
Can you please indicate whether you will have lunch after the Red Rock tour on Saturday. I would like to get a count to see if the restaurant can handle the crowd. Thanks.

Put me down for 2...hubby may not be able to make it (he hasn't found anybody to work his shift yet), but I'll be there and hope he'll be able to make it as well.

Uh, maybe dinner?
Fellers (and gals):
I just read this review of eight great steak houses and the last one was the following;
Las Vegas
StripSTEAK
3950 Las Vegas Blvd. South; (702) 632-7414
Michael Mina's first steakhouse, StripSTEAK, in the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino, reflects "the way chefs go out to eat. We want great product and great technique. Now clients want that, too," he says.
The chef says steakhouses today are more chef-driven than in the past "because of the products. We get very involved with who's growing the meat and how it's marbled." His restaurant serves Certified Angus, American and Japanese Kobe beef. Most steaks are slow-poached to enhance flavor and tenderness, then cooked over a wood-burning grill.
But other ingredients matter, too. "In old steakhouses you would get a tomato salad and it didn't matter what time of year it was," says Mina. At StripSTEAK, if local tomatoes are not in season, don't expect to see them on the menu. The restaurant's produce comes from California, and Mina's buyers travel up and down the coast regularly to get the best of what is available.
Desserts are "very important." The restaurant has a giant doughnut machine that churns out doughnuts, beignets and fritters. The doughnuts are served with a side of ice cream; beignets come with custard and fritters are accompanied by an assortment of miniature cheesecakes. Just a little something to finish off the meal.
Perhaps we should consider this as an option? I mean, we drive SUVs, right? We should eat steak! (Right?)

NJ, count me in for Saturday lunch as long as my truck is in on time.
BTW, my wife and I took about a 3-4 hour true 4x4 adventure up into the hills at Red Rock about 5 years ago. We came out on the other side of the mountains / park. It was pretty steep, rough, and narrow in some areas but it was a blast. If anyone wants to try it, I would go again.

The scenic drive is a 13 miles one way road with some pull offs and some gravel access roads which I have not tried with the S Class...:-) I am allowing about 3 to 4 hours from the time we meet at 9-9:30 to view the scenery and shoot some pics before the lunch at BJ's at around 1-1:30.
