Steve -

I think I read the same article. Was it in WS?

If you are willing to set it up for Saturday evening, I'd be game. Sounds like a great joint.

A link from MSN's site, which I wouldn't even go to if it wasn't the default home page on Explorer and I weren't so damned lazy. It just looked really, really good to a guy who was waiting for dinner to be done!

NJ - count me and wifey in for lunch + 2 kids.

Sat night is wide open right now so I would say we wing it. Who is interested in getting together on Sat night? We can do dinner and a show or just dinner or just watch the dancing fountains

Important Information

I drove out to Red Rock this morning (less than 15 minutes) and did some pre-production planning. The Marker area is just not big enough. So go past the Marker about a mile or so and watch for the sign Calico Basin Road (it's the only right turn available)...I will be parked a short distance on the right shoulder. There is plenty of room to handle all the vehicles without much traffic.

I think this will be the best area to get some nice images with great backgrounds, more so than within the gated area and along the scenic drive. If we place the trucks (and Mary's CL) facing the camera position below in convoy fashion, that will make a great shot. We can then shoot individual shots so each driver will have one of his vehicle...sort of high school yearbook pics where we just change the subject and the background stays the same..:-)

I shot this today to give you an idea of what the background scenery will be:

The scenic drive is a 13 miles one way road with some pull offs and some gravel access roads which I have not tried with the S Class...:-) I am allowing about 3 to 4 hours from the time we meet at 9-9:30 to view the scenery and shoot some pics before the lunch at BJ's at around 1-1:30.
It doesn't sound like there will be time for this particular off roading route. Yes this tour was one that I did on my own (best way to offroad in my opinion) and 4x4 was required through much of it! We almost rolled a couple of times but I guess that is what insurance is for. If my vehicle comes in ontime I would love to join for lunch as well; two adults and two kids!
Thanks

Me too! He really wants to go, but we already have a trip earlier in October to Fresno for a motorcycle thing that he had to get a swap for, so finding another swap for another weekend may be difficult.

Looks like it's gonna be a pretty busy weekend on the dates of the vegas trip.

Currently rates are $480 and up for the HET properties, excluding Bill's (formerly Barbary Coast) and Imperial Palace.

As far as the car wash that I mentioned in previous post, I have been playing phone tag with them and will update you guys soon.

Since you work for Harrah's, can you see if arrangements could be made with your employer to have them do the detailing on Friday evening at Caesar's? We'll be getting together that evening for drinks and dinner, so timing would be perfect and everyone would have a bright and shiny vehicle for the road trip on Saturday morning. Thx!

Nj, are you still looking for a count for lunch on Saturday? If so, count in Dodson & Wordsmith.

Just put an order in for a Nikon 10 mm fisheye lens, so I'll have it with me when we get together the end of October. Seemed as good a reason as any to finally order one.

Is that 1 each for a total of 2?

That lens should be something else...my 10-22mm (with the 1.6 ratio really a 15 on the low end) is great for landscapes.

Shot this today on the patio...very limited bird variety so when I see one I try and shoot a pic. This was at 300mm.

Yes, that will be a total of 2 for lunch. The 10.5mm fisheye is a net 16mm. This was a wide as I could get with a Nikon DX lens.

Car Washing?

Guys, did we do anything final regarding car washing? Looking back, there was a suggestion of a mobile wash on a top floor of a garage, which isn't going to happen for even a photo shoot, and another suggestion of a car wash. Is there a final decision and do we need to notify anyone of a) the number of cars and b) the requirements for detailed cleaning?

Thanks,

STP

Rao's Dinner

Look, I promise not to say this when I'm at Rao's, okay? They paid me to say it here! (And no, I'm not Johnny Basha.)

PS NJ and other Mac users, you might not get this to work with WMP for OS-X

Good catch, Steve.

Jack - you think that car wash you recommended can handle a bunch of GLs in an hour or so? I am thinking that those that want their cars washed get their at 8:00 AM or so (do they even open that early).

Any other thoughts, guys and ladies?

I doubt it...they open at 8:30 I think and usually have a smaller crew on at start-up. Another thing, I don't use the on line wash because I am afraid of the rims in one of those moving tracks. So I have it hand washed off rack and that takes about 20 minutes or so minimum (plus another 20 min for the wipe down) and they only can do one at a time. Even on rack they do hand wash, not the usual auto wash.

Perhaps Beancounter can suggest a solution. There are a lot of Fabulous Freddy's which do a good job and they are the no-brush type with a good wipe down at the end.

by me;

Ha! That's pretty funny. I never thought about the fact that Johnny looks like Dave Whatsisface from Wendy's!

I've had three people (one being my wife) whose Windows Media Players dumped them out on trying to play the commercial. But again, I promise not to say, "I'll just have the house salad!" again.

Hi folks. I've got Caesar's looking into getting us detailers to wash our GL's while we're at Rao's. I'll let you know what I find out.

BTW... I'm in New Orleans today/tomorrow and heading to Orlando Friday night. I certainly hope this little low pressure system off the coast of Tampa doesn't turn into a hurricane. I can tell you the people of New Orleans are quite nervous this morning.
