Installed Chrome Hood Fins

I finally got around to installing the chrome hood fins on my 450. Mel, you were right...super easy to do! The pictures aren't great as it was getting dark, but they'll give you an idea.

How cool is that? They look great!

I've got to be honest though... what really makes that picture is the stuffed animals on the dash.

Geez, here I am trying to convince myself I don't need the chrome hood fins and you go and show them to me on a dark color. They are sharp, though, aren't they?

Crud.

When I was learning to drive (25+ years ago!) my driving instructor gave me a little fuzzy ball with eyes & feet that he put up on my dash and said it's name was I.C.K.Y. whic meant Impatience Can Kill You. To this day, every vehicle I've driven has had an "ICKY" on the dash to remind me of that.

They really do dress it up a bit. They show up very nicely against the dark paint.

They look great Jen...have to give Greg a call and have him set aside a set for me. I am also going to put on the Chrome Door Handle Guards also.

We GL550 "bling lovers" can't have enough chrome...:-)

Jen, they definitely look great. I had them waiting for me when I picked my 450 up. They really dress it up. My only complaint about them is that they are a little pricey for what they are but in the grand scheme of things who cares. I am surprised to hear the chrome door handle guards are not standard on the 550...........

Here is where I got mine:

I got them from the same place Beancounter did
http://mb.parkplacestores.com/glchhofi.html

They are a bit pricey for being "plasti-chrome" but they do look nice and super easy to install.

These aren't something that the dealer would have? Also, I see that on the listing at the Park Place website, that the hood fins are a matt chrome. Is this correct, or are they shiny?

They look nice. Thanks.

In my conversation with the guys there they said they didn't know why it said matte chrome because they only come in high gloss. However, if you order them I'd be darned sure they know you want high gloss only! For nearly $200 for six little bits of shiny plastic with tape, they'd better be friggin' right!

These are standard MB parts and are available at any parts counter. All you need is the stock #. Pricing at Park Place appears to be high to me for most of the their accessories.

Nobody had a clue about them locally, and in most cases the prices were higher here (surprisingly - you'd think around Loss Wages it'd be more expensive) for most of the stuff on my "wish list." The real problem is when somethings $30 or so less at Park Place, but it's $90 to ship it (like the skid plates), and then they only take the credit cards on the website but don't list stuff like that on the website.

ANYway ... we'll see what happens. Oh, and it was actually $131 with shipping, not $200.

Jack,

The ones I got from Park Place are not MB parts. They are from some other manufacturer that I can't remember right now. I can find the box they came in if anyone wants that information. I tried to get them through Fletcher Jones (in Las Vegas) and they told me they are "special order/nonstandard" items and that they might not be able to get them so I got them through Park Place. That was back in April so maybe things have changed. You are spot on about Park Place's prices. They are even more expensive then Fletcher Jones. The fins are high gloss.

Jeff

I stand corrected then...I thought they were stock OEM fins. Thanks for the info.

CC... Noticed your from Mesa. You and your wife (and your GL450 of course) ought to consider joining a group of us up in Vegas for a meet/greet. Bound to be a great time.

Stumblefoot, I am thinking about it. My work schedule will dictate if I join the party or not. May be traveling to view those CO Rocky Mtns up in Denver.
