Illumination distance for low beam

My '08 GL 320 has the xenon headlights but it seems that the illumination distance of the low beam is not enough. I would say about 50 to 60 feet. I know that it is self leveling but I always have to click it to high beam. Does anybody feel the same about their headlights? I will have to drop it off one day to the dealer for some service and will have it check.

I have noticed the same thing. However it is the same with my C3500 Silverado. It seems like the light stops abruptly, creating a line, rather than feathering out. You can see it more clearly when you are on a hilly curvy road.

It is true that Xenon end in a "line" rather than a curve. However, I have not noticed the distance to be short. Seems perfect to me.

My Bimmers and GL (all with Xenon's) exhibit the same behavior - create a line above the lights and it's especially noticable on hills. This is normal for Xenon's and something you'll get used to.

Not just xenons, but projector headlights in general. I'm confused about scottybdivings Silverado though. I thought they used the reflector headlights but it has a sharp cutoff too.

I got the same problem with my CLS, I just raised the projector to the highest position possible and that helped with the distant problem a little bit.

How did you raise the projector? is there a control to do this?

They refer to the upgraded headlights as "Jewel Headlamps" on the LTZ package. They give a very dilineated line.

Is raising the projector something that can be done at home or is it a dealer only service?

It might be different in the GL, but in my ML there are instructions about two "screws"; one for horizontal adjustment, one for vertical adjustment. This works even for the bi-xenon lights.

Check your GLs manual, it might be in there.

I know on my GMC truck there is a little screw hole on the light casing to aim the beam up or down. Is it something like this for the GL?
