Rear Sunblinds?

I did a search on the forum but could not find an answer this question: are the rear window sunblinds standard or optional on the GL? I looked through the specs on the MBUSA site but did not find any reference to it being offered on this vehicle.

Obviously, it's needed for the kids and it was one of the options I had to have on my E63 - I just hope the GL has it!

TIA for your input.

I have not seen any reference to them and I don't think they are an option on the GL line. The privacy glass with the IR glass on the 320/450 offers pretty dark screening and even with the Blue glass on the 550, the privacy glass works well.

Privacy glass does indeed work well, NJ. However, sometimes young ones just catch the Sun at a particular angle and let's just say the ride becomes turbulent That is why I think shades would help.

Because the Bean Counters at MB saw a way to slice some costs off the 550 and keep the price competitive. MB Marketing says it is more "sporty" and I say Bull****. It was not a deal breaker with me but I was not happy when I learned of the switch.

I have even gone to the extent of seeing what it would cost to replace the windshield and two front windows with the IR glass. The glass comes to about $1300 + labor. I have decided to tint these windows with some high UV/IR film.

I have a fantastic rent to own program for mine. You rent them for 2 weeks and you get 2 weeks free. After 6 months, you own them. The biggest plus is that we pay the rent to you. Send me your shipping address and we will get started as early as tomorrow.

Yeah...I hear you...:-) If I told you I would take the deal you wouldn't know what to do. I saw the pic at the meet and there is no way you would let someone like that child of yours out of your site...:-)

Rear sunblinds were not developed for, and are not available on the GL.
They are available on the R-Class though.

The GL does have an electronic "Sun Sensor" which will boost climate control to the quadrant of the vehicle which has a large temperature differential (such as sunshine on the rear windows).

I did not know this - nice feature. Any idea where these sensor(s) are located?

Oh, Nish, your son was such a gentleman, and he put up with our antics at Rao's so well. When he told me it was a pleasure to meet me at lunch, I about fell over! I don't remember if my son was ever that polite.

Is that on all GLs, Fahrer? Or only the ones with 3 zone?

Any word on Distronic for 550?

Ahh, it's worth it. Besides, they're more fun when your kids are asleep and YOU play with them! It took about 5 Christmases for my kids to figure out why they kept getting new video game systems all the time.

Sun Sensor is standard on GL's with 2-Zone.

No Distronic developed for the V8+ (U.S.)...waiting for Dist+

The video is from the UK but it covers the sun sensing operation of the A/C

Appreciate the feature related to climate control, but this isn't going to help when there's direct sunlight coming into the car and blinding the little ones. Would hate to get another sunblind mounted on the rear windows.

Wonder why this is available on the R-class but not on the GL?

Check the BMW X5, it is available as a part of the Rear Climate Control package.

IMHO think it's a mistake not to have the rear sunblinds even as an option on a car that people could consider as family oriented lifestyle vehicle.

Agreed...rear sunblinds should be included with the 3-Zone Climate control.
The reason it's not included in the the R-Class is because it adds another $300 to the 3-Zone price (total $1660 for the extra zone)

Henry Fonda once said "How can you trust a man that wears a belt AND suspenders? Man can't even trust his own pants!"

Sunshades AND tinted glass seem much the same to me.

The sun will be there when the kids exit the car -- buy them sunglasses.

[QUOTE=lkchris;2491651] Sunshades AND tinted glass seem much the same to me.

Tinted glass main function is privacy, and sunshades, well, the name says it.
I really wished that the GL had them. Even my friend's VW Touareg has them. I had to settle for a freakin green Diego roll up sunshade, totally kills my image.

Can I buy the Wii from Father Christmas? I can't find any here in Colorado. Tell Little Nish that I'll make it worth his while.
