Busted! Corner illuminating lights...

Well, a friendly PA police officer decided to pull me over and "inform" me that one of my foglights weren't working. Much like my excuses for speeding he didn't quite buy the story that these are corner illuminating lights until I demonstrated the feature. I love discussing cars but not on the way to work at 5am!

I love that feature from the driver's seat but it does look odd from the outside.

...people always think something's not working properly...may just make more sense to manually turn the fog lamps on at night

I just leave all my lights on (headlights and foglights) all the time. Turn on the vehicle, turn off the vehicle I don't have to worry about the lights. I don't think this corner illuminating feature is worth the trouble and it does look very odd from outside. Even i got caught on that, once saw an ML trying to make a turn and i thought one foglight was out until i realized it was that corner light thing.

i had that disabled via steering wheel controls....it makes the car look goofy as you turn at intersectoions that are well lit at night.

I think Chicky is right! The officer seemed pretty reasonable once I explained the situation. I am most definitely a leadfooot but was stopped at an intersection when all this went down, whew!!!

It does violate the rule of "remaining inconspicuous". I wouldn't want to have that conversation with them after a nice dinner and a glass of wine at a restaurant. Not that I would have just one glass, but we have to be politically correct.

+1

I think I'll be turning off the feature as others have done for this reason. No doubt our friendly officers will often look for something goofy in order to pull us over and have a closer look...

I like the feature........live in a "non-urban" area where street lights, etc. are not the norm. When the fog light comes on, it really does help light up the turn area.........like the old "cornering lights" that used to be available on a lot of American vehicles in the 60's and 70's!

Forgot to comment....

on the ride home from the dealership (at night) I was following DH who called and said..."something is wrong with your lights". We thought they were broken and were thinking we had to take the truck back...

It is my understanding they only operate in turn mode when the vehicle speed is at or below 25mph. Seems to me they would be really handy at that speed in a dark urban setting. Although, since I am still a car in waiting do not have personal experience!!!! Darn it! It was a feature that we really liked on the car for out here in the country.
