Blackberry 8830 phonebook

The BT module works perfectly even downloading my internal phone book. The weird part is that only the addresses from A-G are shown on the command screen and then the directory goes to the voice dialing directory. It is almost as if I have too many entries and there is no room, but that makes no sense to me. Has anyone has this problem.

oh no, that's the phone I have. I hope you figure it out. As soon as I take delivery I'll play with it.

Yes, I had the same problem with the 8130 Pearl. I believe mine dowloaded a little farther, then stopped. I didn't count the entries, but maybe it was 200 or so. Couldn't find any documentation regarding a limit.

My solution (not perfect) was to assign categories to a selection of phone numbers that are ones that I call with some frequency (surprisingly few), and in the BlackBerry phone's bluetooth options, select "Address Book Transfer", "Selected Categories Only". Had the added benefit that it made it somewhat easier to scroll through in my other car where you can only go through the list from top to bottom.

My 8830 works fine. I think the address book in the GL is limited to 99 entries so I solved the problem with the "categories" field in Outlook. For those that I wanted displayed in the car, I put "car" in the category field. Then when I set up the bluetooth, it asks for address book transfer selected categories only, put in "car". It works fine

OK, now I feel better. That's great advice. Thanks

Not a single problem with mine. The only "problem" is going to dialed or received numbers, sometimes instead of getting the number or the name I just get "DV" as the entry, which means nothing to me (and bears no relation to what the number or the name was).

But the phone book is 100%.

Works perfectly. Now I get just the numbers I call alot, and trust me its not 99 numbers. Great advice-many thanks.

OK, so all i need to buy for my 08 GL is the MHI Bluetooth Interface Module, Part No. B6 7 87 5878. I just slide this on the piece in the center console.

Then it will work with my blackberry pearl. Correct? I understand about the address book, worst case senario, I will just have to dial with the phone.

Part is $420

I have an 8820 (AT&Ts version of the 8830) and this worked for me too.

I think this is the same method as stklduckhunter suggested, though I'm not sure what outlook is off the top of my head though I know I've heard of it.

For some reason when I modified the categories (made a car category in Outlook) and then changed my key phone numbers to "car", some went in and some did not. When I selected "hot list" on the phone, however, the correct ones seem to be accessible from the Command screen.

I'm having some difficulties in transfering numbers from my 8830 to the GL. It was transfering all of my 450 entries. I didn't want that so I categorized just key numbers as "car". Now the funny part is, sometime it loads just the "car" category and sometimes it loads the entire 450 - not sure why it's doing this.

Jongaines When you selected "hotlist" was it just transfering the key numbers that you left categorized as "car"? Maybe I'll try this and see what happens.

It should work just fine. If your Pearl has over 100 address book entries, you might consider editing it down with the "category" function discussed earlier in the thread. The only strange thing is the numbers called and received are sometimes not correct. I cannot figure it out

I have a question, when you enable "address book transfer" in the bluetooth options for the 8830 and then the car syncs with your address in the blackberry.

Does the car need to sync every single time you get in or does it sync just once and download all your contacts to the car itself?

I am new to this and unsure.

I ask this because my blackberry is from work and by the BES policies, the "address book transfer" is default to disable but I can have it relaxed so I would be able to "enable" it. Though, it would only be relaxed for a few hours so if I can get it enabled and then do the address book transfer to the car. Would the contacts be stored to the car for good because by the next day the "address book transfer" option will be disabled again and the car would not be able to connect to it get the contacts.

Please help!

Are you in the U.S.? I don't know if the COMAND's Bluetooth options are different outside the U.S. but here my phones have to sync each time the car turns on.

I have an 8830 and use the 'car' category trick to download a limited number of contacts. It needs to synch every time your 8830 handshakes with the bt module - every time you drive the car, it takes anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes to make the address book available, depending on how long it has been since you last synched. If it can't complete the synch, you don't get the mb address book. You don't need to push the download every time using the 8830 function for that purpose. In fact, I have never done that - it is an automatic process when set up correctly.

sorry for the overdue reply, this post was off my radar screen. In any event, I don't really know what the list the "hotlist" is drawing from, but it seems to list my most used numbers. I will play with it and get back to you.
