GL550 Purchase Question

I am going to try and pick up a GL 550 this weekend for my wife. She is wanting the Black/Black fully loaded. I have been visiting this site for quite some time and appreciate the feedback I have received in previous questions. I know this is the first year for this car but was wanting to know how much I could expect to get them off the sticker price? Most cars I have been looking at seem to MSRP around the $83K price tag. I am in the Houston, Texas area if this makes a differance.

Thanks again for everyones help..

Mark

Mark,

I paid $500 over INVOICE for mine in NJ but I had to order it and wait 3 months. December is a great month to buy. I wouldn't pay more than a $1000 over for the 550 and if you get a 450 and load it up, many people in CA have seen 2K below invoice. Good luck.

I paid 1K under invoice (Sticker was 83K) when I bought my GL on Halloween. It was the end of the month, and they were eager to make a deal. Perhaps it was also because I bought an 08 S550 at the same time, so they were willing to work with us a bit during negotiation so we would buy both cars. I don know if the end of the year thing applies to '08 vehicles as much as it does the '07s. Most dealers are offering deals on 07s to make room for the 08 models.

My dealer with no hassles quoted me $500 over invoice for a loaded 550. For me don’t mind leaving a few dollars on the table, I have found it makes for a better relationship between the dealer and buyer. This has work well for me in the past, especially when you need a favor (get in and out of the shop faster, etc). Does another $500 make much difference when you are buying an 80K vehicle? I look for middle ground, nothing is better than a Happy buyer and a Happy Seller! And yes the end of the year is a great time to buy a vehicle it doesn’t matter if it’s a 07 or 08 they all want a deal in Dec!

Correction, I paid 1K below invoice in my S550, and got Sticker on the GL. Sorry about the confusion. I wouldn't expect to pay more than invoice if I were buying right now...

Thanks everyone for the help. Actually went to 3 different dealerships yesterday and nobody had a black on black 550 fully loaded. The nearest dealership to me (Sugarland) which I have tried to buy before would not budge off of sticker except for a mere $750 which I delightfully declined. Since nobody had the car we wanted they were all trying to dealer trade for the same car in the dealer locate system. We ended up going to Greenway Mercedes in Houston and they located the same car and agreed to sell the vehicle for $500 over invoice. They are picking the vehicle up today and we take delivery this afternoon. Thanks again for everyones responses on what these vehicles were going for.

I checked out a loaded black/black GL550 at Star Motors of Houston about a month ago and they wouldn't knock much off the MSRP either (even though I had bought my ML there a couple of years back). I wonder if the one your dealer found is coming from there. It had everything but iPod integration and possibly the bluetooth puck. But it had rear entertainment, keyless go, etc.

Thanks, doubt it is the same car since this car is fully loaded on the spec sheet except for the cargo boxes.... whatever that is... This GL 550 actually came out of a San Antonio dealership.

Thanks,
Mark

Did you ever check out Star Motors? I was kind of displeased with them when they gave me such a crappy offer... they even lowballed me on a trade in for my ML by $2K. I'm definitely going to check out Greenway when it's time to get a new MB.
