fiasco at dealer and mudflap update
4 hours after I drop it off I get a call that they are missing a part for the sills (wiring harness) and must order it. The car is torn apart. Would I like them to put it back together? Um, yes??
When I arrive to pick up the truck, already annoyed about the sills, they tell me that mud flaps don't fit on the 550, and those haven't been installed either. Would I like the parts dept to take them back? Again...yes?
So, nothing got done. Oh, I take that back. They did undo my kid's car seat and throw it willie nillie on the back seat. So my husband got to spend 15 mins re-installing that.
They did also enjoy the Harmon Kardon as they changed my radio station.
I didn't even get my chrome bits installed (fins and switch covers) because it's been way colder than 69 degrees and I'd rather wait than screw it up.
Also, the rear mud flaps. I just called and ordered them yesterday. First the guy said they couldn't be done on a 550 and I said are you sure, I thought the rear ones could. Then he came back and said, ok you're right the rear ones can be installed. So now I'm really confused.
Keep us posted on your debacle.
On the rear mudflaps...I will check next week at FJ when I take mine in for the mirror fix. The confusion on whether the rear mud flaps fit or do not fit concerns me because I don't want some tech jury-rigging the install to "make" them fit.
After the 608mi trip over Thanksgiving to Paso Robles (15mpg = 1 fill up @ 100.00) we noticed when we got home that there was a slight scratch in the aluminum portion of the door sill on the driver side. It was just enough to reflect off of the interior lighting and drive me nuts over the last day or so.
I always try to be careful to step way over the lighted aluminum unit during entrance and egress to the vehicle, but I've noticed valets, or even the MB service techs that wash it for free at the dealer, tend to rub or scrape their feet on the sill and the plastic molding around it. This often leaves dirt or rubber residue that I've found only a magic eraser can take away easily (Mac interior is tough to keep spotless). I've been guilty in it with my Birkenstock sandals, and ecpecially try to pay attention with my harder-soled shoes that can SCRATCH as well.
Given that only two of us drive the GL over the weekend, we're guilty of the scratch

Do you know if you can order these as a single unit?
Aside from the unfortunate scratch, it was a great trip. The GL can sure haul those cases of wine, luggage, and 4 passengers quite well. Very happy that I won the coin toss over the S550 for the trip
I'll also be installing my wings this weekend, if the weather is nice.

Hang in there on the lighted sills. You'll like them I promise. It's just too bad that the dealer wasted so much of your time.
You should write a letter to the dealer about the service you recieved. I am sure that the owner would want to know that his service techs were messing with your stations and showed a total lack of respect with regard to your child seat. The only way he can tell that his employees are not providing the proper level of service is if customers complain. Let them have it!!

1. When the dealer calls you to survey the service, rake them over coals. Do not be shy and speak up.
2. Write to the dealership.
3. Call your SA and talk to him nicely. Explain how you are disappointed and really expected better. At that time ask him to make a note too that your radio should not be touch whenever your car comes in. They will then put it on every work order every time you go in.
Enjoy the car, don't sweat the small stuff.
But this brings up an interest thought: should we call out dealers by name who provide excellent and horrendous service experiences? It seems the owners' experiences are all over the map and IMHO it would be helpful to all current and prospective owners about which dealers to look for and which to avoid.
Hopefully a public forum like this will serve as a wake up call for dealers who provide poor service to their customers.
This reflects my experience with Audi when I had leased an '04 A8L and ownership experiences were all over the map when it came to dealership services. Luckily, I received top notch service and while I wish I could say that for the other owners, it was just not the case and some stories were just unbelievable.

I checked with parts and he said the data shows that the rear flap will work with the 550. The 550 web site also lists them (front and rear) but does not say you can't install the front ones with the running boards. So if that is in error, perhaps the parts reference is also in error. He gave me the part # 66528237 @ $128 a pair. I am not convinced the 450 flap will work with the 550 so I am waiting for MBUSA to respond to my email. Stumblefoots' service guy said it would not work!

I have sized the 450/320 flaps against the car (rear only as I have the RB installed) They fit tight against the paintwork and install through the wheel well liner. I think the extra 2 inches that the wheel well molding on the 550 will not make them line up to have the outside stick-um part mate with the 550 paintwork. Should be easy to check out at the dealer prior to purchase. They really look good ReachW!
Thanks.
