I've got the MB cargo box and had it painted Verde Brook so that it matched myh GL identically.

Let me know what you'd like to know.

Quality issue? My dealer had one on display and I’m not 100% sure if it was OEM. It seemed a little flimsy. If you took the time to paint yours it appears it is of a high enough quality? Would you say that’s a fair statement?

I don't have the Cargo box but I did get a cargo net from Amazon. It fits perfect between the two pillars of rear hatch and does a great job of keeping stuff from rolling around. Was less then 20 bucks.

I've never had one before, so I can't compare.

Mine is OEM and I'm not impressed. I got the ski rack and while the MB manual shows 3 pairs of skis fitting just fine, they must have created the manual in 1980. With modern bindings, only 2 pairs of skis can fit in the box. We spent about 1 1/2 hours making the box fit just right to hold the skis and fit properly on the cross-bars. A giant pain in the you know what!

It's terribly difficult to take on and off, so while I would like to take it off in between ski trips, there is no way it'll be off until the end of the season. Can't wait to see the impact on the mpg.

Are you guys talking about the "on the roof" cargo box or the "behind 3rd row" cargo box?

I have the MB 16 cubic feet cargo box. Comparing to the Sears 20 cubic, the MB one is much heavier and better construction. I like the hydrolic(?) lift to open the lid.

Installation on top of the GL450 is very easy. It normally takes about 10 minutes. Last summer, I put it on and off 3 times without any problem.

Note: If you accidentally leave sands (beach) in the locking area, you cannot lock the lid. This happened to me when I had dirty beach luggages in the box. Use the hair dryer to blow the sands out. The Sears box is much better in this area.

The only complaint is that it's expensive.

I'm just walking through town
Thule or Yakima Boxes work great. Pain in the ssa to put on and off, its definately a seasonal or special trip operation and best done with two people. My is on all winter for skiing, and once in the summer for a 2 week trip.

I was talking about the "on the roof" cargo box. I also have the "behind 3rd row" box too. Don't keep it in the GL though, because it rattles so darn much!

I have the 21 cu ft Packasport http://packasport.com/home/ps2/page_13; mounted it on my old Thule cross-bars from the old ML (had to buy the mounts for the GL; got them from Thule as they were much cheaper than dealer; looks are comparable to dealer's).

Have a black on black GL550 and black Packasport looks pretty good. Packasport does not fit as much as other cargo boxes, but the quality is superior and it has a lower height profile, so you can actually fit into some garages. I can clear a 7'0" garage height with suspension in sport.

Did you see Stumble's reply about it rattling? I also looked at it but wasn't too thrilled by it. That is why I bought the net from Amazon which fits perfectly and does a great job of keeping stuff from rolling around.

I saw Stumble's replay, I didn't buy it because I thought it was a "EL CHEAPO" but not at a cheap price. I guess I'll find a couple old crates and call it good.

Don't waste your money on the OEM version. It is indeed constructed in the "EL CHEAPO" mode.

It's the only thing I've ordered from MB that I haven't been satisfied with.

I just purchased two plastic bins from Walmart that together fit very nicely across the width of the cargo area behind the third row seat. We use them to load grocery bags and odds and ends into when we are out and about. They don't rattle, their a white translucent colour and they work prefectly. I think the total cost was about $10.

Imagine that... Wal-Mart's price is 94% less than MB.

Glad to hear that you not only saved a lot of money, but that they also work great!

I went to Kameapart (Kmart) and they didn’t have anything I liked. I’ll check at Wal-Mart soon (40 mile drive)
