GL450 v GL550 lease rates

I did not get any responses from my earlier question regarding lease rates on the 550, so I dug out my notes from my meeting with my dealer.

42 month lease - GL450 (ALL packages, door sills and Ipod integration) MSRP $74,180.00 with 12k miles per year, residual was .52 or $38,573.60 money factor .002 or 4.8% with a monthly payment of $1,065 with $5,578 cash at signing.

GL550 - MSRP $78,675 (door sills, ipod)12K per year, residual was.48 or $37,764, money factor .0037 or 8.9% with a monthly payment of $1521.67 with $7,965 cash at signing.

They also offered a purchase option on the GL550 at 7.5% for 60 months with 16k down that resulted in a payment of $1,534 per month.

I analyzed these myself in excel and they do not make sense, I get about a $200 per month difference on the 550 vs the 450 based on the different money factors and residuals. If anyone has any other numbers please share, these were from September.

Ok here are my rough calculations ( not knowing dealer acquisition fees, sales tax rate and calculations in NY etc etc). It seems numbers are correct for GL 450 (close enough anyways) but they are suspect for GL 550 (should be around $1340) unless he gave you those numbers for 36 month lease term for 550.

For purchase, with 16 K downpayment at 7.5 % for 60 months (I assumed 8% sales tax and $ 700 for license and registration) the payments should be $1396 per month..

Hope this helps.

my calculations

Thanks for the info, I think they were padding the GL550 numbers since I waited until these were available and they knew that was my main interest. I'm going to go to another dealer in NJ and see how things compare, I'll post the results.

Thanx

Go to the bank or an independent leasing company. Your numbers are correct (payments monthly and down payments) so your dealer or MBUSA is trying to pull something over on you...independent leasing brokers and banks have no incentive from a manufacturer so you should do better.

Why don't you just buy the damn the thing?

Lease vs. buy

I agree that buying makes the most sense and I bought my ML430, but I endured an IRS audit in the process, I had about a 93% business use that I was able to justify with copies of my driver's log, so it worked out in the end but it was a hassle. So my reasons not to buy are on advice from accountant and resale value of the 550 in the future, assuming more advanced engines come out. THe fact that MBUSA assumes that the 550 has 4% less value at the end of a 42 month lease compared to the 450 is somewhat worrisome as they know what products are in the pipeline. Also, if the ML line is any indication, changes that were made for the top of the line models usually found there way to the other models either as standard items or as options. in the following years which will again diminish some of the uniqueness of the 550 and I don't care for this practice. One of the reasons we like the 550 is that it is different, when that disappers, so do the sales.

Not sure how strong a correlation there is between what they set for residual value vs what the real world depreciation would be.. I do not see any logic in higher residual values for 450 compared to either 320s or 550s. The only explanation is they want much more attractive lease terms for 450 compared to the other models as they are having trouble selling 450s.. if anything 320 should have higher residual values as they are in high demand and diesels last for ever.

Lease GL320 vs GL450

I got a quote for GL320 and GL450 yesterday. ($0 down, Tax included)

GL320
61%/0.00190/33m/12K
MSRP: $64585 Selling Price: $61600
$891.90/m Initial Payment: $3,198

GL450
33m/12K
MSRP: $67,085 Selling Price: $62,864.25
$840.54/m Inithial Payment: $3033.65

I'm considering to lease GL450. Before I quoted the rate, I almost decided that I would lease GL320. As you can see, I don't have any reason not to lease GL450 except mileage.
What do you think?

Seems you are getting a better discount on GL 450. Does 450 have more options? I know at one point MBs base price on 320 was $ 1500 or $ 2500lower than 450s. If mileage is not an issue for you then go for 450. But see if you can negotiate more. Seems MB has been giving special incentives on 450s ever since 550s came out.

Packages are same. P1, Heating, and 19" wheel Package, Running board, Keyless go, Ipod kit. Base price on 320 is $2,500 lower than 450s.
I'll try to negotiate more.

Looks to be a good deal on the 320, I bet you could do a bit better on the 450. Did you look at anyother mileage options?

2013 GL450
2008 GL450 lease

I went to dealer, and I got the final quote.
Packages have been upgraded to P2, Heating, 19" wheel, Running board, Keyless go, Ipod kit, and Voice Control. MSRP is $69,710.
(I don't need voice control, but better than trailer hitch for me.)
It's Black/Black GL450.

63%/0.00180/33m/12k
$872.00 Initial Payment $3,300

The problem is the car is located on Indianapolis, so I should pay for shipping of $800.
Since GL450 with Heating pkg is rear, choice was limited.
If the dealer can trade the car, I'll get it probably within 2 weeks.
I'm so excited.

Thank you "blazinginder" for the info. I really appreciate it.
Though I considered to visit there, at least 2 hours driving stops me.

I think you can do better. Maybe not in Florida I don't know about different states. I got mine in California (Fletcher Jones) Orange County!

08 GL 450
MSRP 69,920.00 (I think $69,9??)
$2500 Total out of pocket
33 month lease
10k per year
$741.00 Plus tax total
Free Mercedes Bluetooth adapter for the hands free system thrown in

I went to another dealer in the area to price shop and they did not believe I was getting that deal and told me to pretty much get lost and I did right back to there competetor and picked up the car that same night. The other dealer told me that either I was making up the deal or the other dealer was playing a game with me. But sure enough They were not. Anyway they are willing to make deals on these cars, Just be cool with the sales manager and stand firm and walk out if you have to, just tell them that you will go to another dealer to see what they will offer and they will make it happen. The last thing they want to see a potential sale walk out the door. Just tell them you are willing to by the car today if they do the deal you are looking for. If you have already test drove the car and know exactly what you want and they have the car on the lot - go straight to the sales manager and say I want that car this is what i think is a fair deal if you agree I will take it now. I did it and they had me out of there in less than an hour with the car bluetooth and no problems. Good Luck1

well,
MB GL 450 white Premium II, plus boards, hitch, voice, sills, etc, 70k car
$5,500 down
$769/mo
33 mos
not having the wife ***** that she wants a new car...priceless.

I think it's an OK deal...could have done a little better, but had no time.

We were actually shopping for a new Sequoia Platinum. MSRP 54,000...loaded to the max.
3 dealers...best deal I could find was 39 mos, 12k/yr, 786/mo plus tax with 3000 down. forget the others...one dealer had the ***** to tell me 9000 down on a lease for 690/mo plus taxes...amazing. I told him it's not a carerra, it's a toyota and to pound sand.

anyways, I think I got a MB450 for the same $ as the new sequoia.

Good job! I would never have put up with the dealer crap as long as you did!! The difference in 450 vs. 550 payments cannot be explained.

Love your GL. I love mine.
