Chrome Door Pins & Surrounds

Last month I contracted the usual mod fever associated with getting a new car. At some point I found an online vendor that had Chrome Door Pins & Surrounds for the GL, but did not save the link and cannot find it anymore.

Has anyone installed already or know a source for GL Chrome Door Pins & Surrounds?

Thanks!

Jerry at formymercedes has them for the SLK. I will email and ask if he can get them for the GL (or if they're the same). I will post follow-up.

ebay seems to have a bunch. Do a search on "mercedes door pin". Many say they are compatible with the "round pin". Not sure what the GL pins are considered, I'm trying to figure it out.

Hi MoTorque: Take a look at performanceproducts.com. I have their catalog, and they carry these for the GL Class. A set of 8 pieces (I assume 4pins and 4 surrounds) sells for $69.95. The reference number is 99-536.

JDT is correct, those look right. They also look like "round pins" which makes me think the AMG versions they have on eBay might work. I have a question into the seller. I'll post back.

I should have also mentioned that the web site I cited in this thread, may only show the pins as being for the ML Class. The catalog I have reflects that the reference number I gave you is for both a GL Class and the ML Class.
You can reach them at 1-800-243-1220 for questions.

Thanks so much patsy1099 and JDT1!

The ML pins picture from performance parts is the exact one that got burned into my brain. I looked several times at their site as I ordered the steering wheel, but could not see the pins anymore until you mentioned it.
I will call them tomorrow.

Thanks again!

Should you look at European models in EPC you'll note the doorpins are the same W123 number as all Mercedes since the 1970s.

So's your brake pedal rubber.

So I've been watching this thread since you started it and the chrome pins and surrounds look pretty slick, though I don't know if I'm giong to be doing them right away.

But I thought you would get a kick out of this; at first, I honestly thought you meant the pins that hold the doors to the car were going to be chrome, and the whole door would be surrounded by a chrome line like you can put around your headlights and tail lights! What a maroon I am. What a gulla-bull!

I didn't know what they were but was too embarrased to ask. I won't ask for directions either.

Asking directions is something my dealer should have done.

When I took my car in for an oil change, I wanted to replace my broken door pins under warranty. I got the work order back with door panel removal included. I guess they didn’t realize that it’s easy to screw the pins back on the actuator when the car is unlocked and the actuator is in the up position. When locked and down, the actuator can disappear into the door.

Just ordered the chrome pins from Jerry and his site says no panel removal, easy installation.

Did you also order the "surrounds" that are also on the site? I don't know if they are for the GL or some other model.

EDIT: just checked site and see they are a package....

Pics when you install...:-)

Those look very nice and, IMHO, should have come standard on the vehicle. I think the black plastic pins and the cheapy looking sun visors are about the worst looking trim things on the vehicle.

I didn't even look at them until today...you are right! I am pretty sure I will be getting the chrome kit for them after I see Leo's pics.

On the sun visors...I test drove a R class when they were first introduced and my only major dislike at the time was the sun visors! Told the sales rep it was deal breaker but never really got close to that since I did not like the R at all in the metal. The GL550 just had so much going for it that the visors were not a factor.

Hahahahahaha, sooooooo funny.
When I came to the US (off the boat with $100) and first heard about Valentine's Day I thought people were saying Ballantine's Day (a Scotch Whisky) and called immediatelly my buddies back in Europe to report about the finding "Whoaaaa! Dude, here in the States they have a Scotch Day...awesome!!!"

It's not an official holiday, but I celebrate "Laphroig Day." It's every Friday. Oh, and Saturday.

Jack received the kit friday. I destroyed the plastic surround removing it and snapped the chrome in place. Fits fine but the pin does not thread on to the lock stem as it is too large. Apparently GL and ML use different locks?

Are the surrounds lined with anything in order to prevent scratches on the pins? Can you see any signs of friction after several activations?
