Cup Holders

I wonder how long you have to own a car before you've noticed, well, everything? Two days ago I found something out - the center console cupholder, if you pull the divider out and try and turn around the rubber mat below it, you'll find the front cup holder's somewhat smaller than the back one. I understand German engineers about as much as I understand the mind of my wife - which is to say, hardly at all. Anyone else? (On the cupholders, not my wife.)

....and the credit card/security pass card holder in the divider is a nice touch!

That center divided piece is removable, in snaps in and out.

Someone must have moved mine before I got to it, because mine's always been like that.

I like it. These are very nice cupholders, I think! All size drinks stay very stable.

I can never get a fully-stemmed wine glass to stay stable in the cupholders. Keeps tipping and spilling out my merlot when I have to slow down for school zones.

That is why I don't use a glasses in GL. You will notice that wine bottles fit in fine in the cup holders and I just chug from the bottle.

I here I thought you preferred Scotch. Those high-ball glasses fit perfectly and don't spill a drop.

Well this is why I drink whisky rather than wine.

You'll see.

Your automobile has been designed with sufficient headroom to permit the proper utilization of a sophisticated piece of technology known as the "beerhat".

You have the part number on that? I want to see if Park Place has it in chrome.

Here's what the European GL cupholder looks like (this in the Birch wood we can't have).

Funky. I guess they had to make a metric-compatible cup holder?

Of course another factor is that eating or drinking while driving is illegal in much of Yerrup, meaning only the passenger should need a cupholder while driving.

Makes you wonder how we survive, with a cheeseburger in one hand, a Diet Coke in the other, while our left ear and shoulder are occupied on the cell phone, doin' 80 (that's MPH, not KPH) down the freeway, changing lanes and steering with our knees.

Is that for real? If that's the European cup holder, I'm glad we can't get birch finish, but can get the nice holders we have.

Same design with maple or walnut wood, too.

But we do get TWO cup holders, not just one like some cheap Euro model. Who cares about ventilated seats when you can get an extra cup holder....

So, I've confirmed that the larger of the two cup holders on the GL will actually hold a 2-liter bottle!

This just goes to show that MB really did build this vehicle with the American consumer in mind.

So why do I need 2-liters of Soda in my GL? We were pulling an all-nighter for work yesterday, and I had to run out for the essential fuel for late-night IT projects.

The cupholders fit some of the Griots Garage items nicely for those squeaky clean interior fanatics.

roses

Entire dozen roses (for wife on valentines day) with glass vase fit in large cup-holder. I guess I beat out the folks who have the bud vase in their Volkswagen bug. Well, on second thought, maybe not.
