Selling my GL 320 CDI

I never thought this moment will come! We really love our truck, and when I bought 11 months ago, I thought I will put 1 million miles on this truck, before to go way.
Unfortunately we decided to move back in Europe ( we have tickets already), and we can't take the car with us ( we have to pay off). In Europe the same car, equipped as mine coast 110K Euro$, new. I bought for for $70+ K .
It's black on black.It has:
Brown Birdseye Maple Wood Trim
Options
Voice Control
Trailer Hitch
3-zone Climate Control
Side step bars
Rear-Seat Entertainment-Dual Screen with DVD Player
Packages
P1: Premium I
335 19" Wheel Package
Accessories
Crossbars (black)
Rear Skid Plate
DVD COMMAND Navigation Kit
Front Skid Plate
Gas Guzzler Tax

I drove a lot, last year. The car has 49K miles on it, so I am willing to drop asking price, with $10K. I just installed new brake pads, new tires, changed oil.
So, if somebody interested, I am open!

I don't think you'll have a bit of trouble selling your 320, but you've got to get your pricing correct. I'd say you are asking $17K - $20K too much.

If you would list in on Ebay for $45K, I bet someone in California would snap it up in a matter of days.

Good Luck!

Svalko - how do you say "upsidedown" in your native language? 'Cause you got a problem son.

I'm not an expert, but I would guess you are looking at something in the low $40's. Since you are upside down in the vehicle, you have 3 choices:
  1. Friendly surrender of the title to 1st lien-holder - your credit will suffer.
  2. Abandon the vehicle - your credit will suffer.
  3. Bring the vehicle to Europe & continue payment. Probably not possible since you will need the title to transport the vehicle overseas.

If you are here due to a temporary assignment with a US employer, try explaining your situation the your HR department and ask for some relief. It seems you bought the vehicle with little or no down payment and put a bucket of miles on it. I guess your decision to return home was an unanticipated event. Wish there was another way out.

I'm sorry to have to agree with everyone else that you are way upside down and it is very unlikely you will get anything close to $60K for your car.

On another note, you have a lot of miles on your GL for the short time you've had it. Have you had many major problems with it?

Good luck.

The last option looks good, because, I really don't want to lose the car. It's a great truck.
Just I have no experience with the banks, can I get the car with me, and to keep doing payments? Like, I just change my address! Something like Mercedes-Benz program for buying the cars from Germany, just I am going in opposite direction.

The only "toddlers" problems for the new model:
changed the air compressor(nothing wrong, there was a leak on air, maybe, but for the dealer was easier to change it)
changed the navigation system module( stopped reading the navigation disk)
adjust the power lift gate
Everything fixed under warranty(happened between 10 -30 000 miles).

Here's what Edmunds.com says.

Trade-in $44587
Private Party $48180
Dealer retail $51709

These numbers include the mileage deduction of $2668 and assume the condition is "Outstanding".

I think supply and demand could factor into the price as well. Because of the rarity and the high demand for diesels in states where they can't buy them, I would go for retail+.

I do not think that the bank will let you take overseas. Another option is to find a family or friend who would take over the payments or continue payments.
I you will return it your credit will suffer as others said. If you do not any choice that will be it. Sorry that is a deep up side down that you are in.

Thank you scotty...! I was disappointed from the same numbers! But there's no GL on the marker, right now, you can bay for 51K ( what about 45K).
At the same time, I am happy, because it looks like ,there is a way I can keep the car with me overseas. Just have to find a way to deal with the bank, I hope.

Unlikely any financial institution will fork over the title to allow you to take the collateral overseas. In the event of default, there is little the lienholder can do to recover an asset outside of the country. Talk to the lender to determine your options, especially if you do not want to impair your credit. I do not know what a deficiency will do to your existing visa or future visa renewals in the event the deficiency is converted to a judgement. Good luck.

Manheim's site is back online.

Last week (w/e January 31), 43 GL450's sold nationwide at an average price of $49.9K with avg condition and mileage of 18K. Manheim is predicting March 2008 auction prices at $47.6K with avg condition and mileage. Manheim auction prices are used as a benchmark for trade-in offers, often considered to be the trade-in max. With the mileage you have on your GL, and the Edmund's adjustment mentioned in another post above, you are looking at $44-45K at best.

Scotty,

Unfortunately, Manheim has not elected to break down the different variants of the X164 at this time. Earlier today, I took a look at the individual transactions for last weeks auction and IIRC each deal was a 450. Just a guess, but there probably is insufficient turnover for the 320 to be broken out separately.

OTOH, maybe there are too few 320's being traded or coming off lease to hit this outlet.
