Porsche Cayenne Turbo
what would you do?

Here is my dilemma-

I have an 04 Cayenne Turbo with 61k miles that still runs perfect. I would love to have a vehicle with a little more space and preferably a third row seat.

I am a big fan of diesel's on suv's purely for the torque and mileage combo. I am close to buying a 320CDI and have two offers at invoice. How good a deal is that? Should I wait until August and see if they start having a fire sale on 08s with the bluetech coming?

I have also looked at a Q7 and would do one with a diesel tomorrow if I could. I feel like the audis/porsches/bmws suit me better, but who knows? I do enjoy a little more sport than luxury but there aren't many choices for a nice suv with a real third row (X5 3d row is a joke, or I'd consider the new X5 diesel also).

I also have access to the military sales which can get me a smokin deal on a current Q7, likely a loaded 4.2 premium for the same $ as a 320CDI.

What would you do? 320CDI now or in a few months? Wait for the 09 Bluetech because of the paddles and SD card and suspension tweaks? Get a Q7 4.2? Wait for the Q7 diesel? Do nothing and keep the cayenne and wait a while longer?

Hey,

I just ordered my GL because I don't want a Blutec. Adblue tank is in the spare tire well, so you get run-flats, and will have to run them forever 'cus you have no spare. I would rather not have the big paddles, as the wheel is already cluttered with cruise, shifter and turn stalk, and with just those three things, I was hitting all sorts of stuff on my test drives.

I think if you want a diesel without all the hassle of Adblue, the next few weeks is your last chance to order what you want, before '09 production starts. All '09 will have to be Tier 2 Bin 5 and that means Adblue, expect to see it on the Audi as well when the diesel hits.

I'd pull the trigger if you want a CDI, it's really just about the last chance.

I don't live in America, so the deal is different, but I got what would be at or better than "invoice" due to factory money on top of what we negotiated.

The remaining non-Bluetech models should sell for a premium, as all the features of "Bluetech" are negatives.

I would get the '09 BlueTEC in October. The Audi Q7 TDI won't come out 'till early 2009. And BMW??? not an option.
The new telematics and the ADS option are worth the 2009 alone.
just my $.02

Soldier,

I've got a friend who has the Q7 and they don't like their 3rd row at all. They gush everytime they get to ride in our 550's 3rd row though.

I've been able to rent a Q7 a few times from Hertz the past several weeks and I can tell you that it doesn't come close in power to the GL. For the weight of the vehicle, their engine choices seem underpowered to me.

Good luck with your shopping!

My .02 Cents....

If you found dealer(s) willing to sell at invoice, I would go with that... If they will let you order an 09 at invoice, go with that, otherwise get the 08 at invoice.

Funny how a Cayenne owner told me that he thought his V6 was under powered too.

I'm not sure that the Q7 3.6 vs a 550 is a fair comparo. Compare a loaded 4.2 s-line with air suspension to a well optioned 320CDI (about $62k US). That's the real decision. Neither is going to compare to the Cayenne TT, so while power is nice, a large 3d row, updated suspension, handling, resale, features, environmental concerns, etc are important considerations.

Soldier,

I'm very familiar with the Audi 4.2 as I have it in an A6 and it is great. Even though I really like the looks of the Q7, when you add all the extra weight it carries on its bones, the 4.2 just doesn't have the get-up-and-go you would expect. Now, load it up with family and gear. You'll be disappointed even more.

If power isn't that important, then the Q7 will be a fine choice. But, if you really need an usable 3rd row that is comfortable to ride in, then the GL wins hands down.

Best wishes with your decision.

Well, on the environmental front, both the '08 and '09 would have similar CO2 numbers, the '08 would put out more nitrogen compounds, and the '09 will belch out hot ammonia, which I'm not really sure is the greatest environmental idea either.

Hi folks,

I'm looking seriously at a CDI. What states are you getting offers at invoice?

Cheers. NW MB
